Job Title: Financial Counselor
General Summary:
This position is responsible for managing front office operations and providing financial counseling to patients. The role includes overseeing all aspects of patient financial interactions, such as insurance verification, co-pay collection, and financial planning. The Financial Counselor will use Athena software to facilitate insurance processes and offer support to patients, including assisting new and expectant mothers with their financial responsibilities throughout their care.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Adheres to and supports Novant Health’s mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures.
Adheres to HIPAA Compliance and the Privacy Standards Confidentiality Agreement.
Demonstrates support for the Corporate Compliance Program by being knowledgeable of compliance responsibilities as expressed in the Code of Conduct; adhering to federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and corporate policies and procedures that affect specific job functions/responsibilities; and reporting compliance issues/concerns in a timely and appropriate manner.
Greets patients entering the office.
Answers office phones and schedules appointments.
Checks in patients, collects accurate patient demographics, enters data into the electronic system, and verifies insurance using Athena software.
Assists with patient check-out, referral processing, and scheduling.
Collects co-pays and posts charges. Understands and explains the difference between deductibles and co-pays.
Coordinates daily operations of the office, including medical records management, patient and physician scheduling, front desk control, accounts payable, appointment confirmations, office supplies, and insurance verification.
Handles charge entry and patient balance processing.
Monitors and audits cash/payment funds.
Reconciles charges and payments daily.
Provides financial counseling to patients, including assisting new and expectant mothers with navigating their financial responsibilities throughout their pregnancy.
Utilizes Athena software to verify insurance coverage and assist patients with understanding their financial obligations.
Performs additional responsibilities as needed.
Education:
High school diploma/GED required
Experience:
Experience working in a medical office setting preferred but not necessary
