South Dakota State University (SDSU) Student Affairs and Enrollment Management is offering an exciting career opportunity as a Wellbeing Specialist. This position will serve the university by developing, fostering, and enhancing wellbeing initiatives in alignment with our mission, vision, and core values. With the national focus on mental health and wellbeing, this position will provide critical resources to enhance the university culture around wellbeing for students and employees through intentional and proactive strategies, as well as support fiscal efforts through grant writing. This is a 12-month, full-time, benefit-eligible position. This position is supervised by the Director of Fitness and Recreation in the Miller Wellness Center.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Wellbeing Specialist is a new position responsible for creating and implementing an institution-wide wellbeing framework to align with the university’s strategic priorities. The following responsibilities are central to this position:

  • Develop and implement programs and services to enhance a culture of overall wellbeing and mental wellbeing for SDSU students and employees in collaboration with SDState Health and SDSU’s Mental Wellbeing Team.
  • Implement effective communication strategies to promote wellbeing programs, services and initiatives to targeted audiences across the university.
  • Identify and streamline gaps or redundancies in services and resources across the university focused on wellbeing for students and employees.
  • Conduct assessment of wellbeing programs and services utilizing data to inform future initiatives.
  • Establish collaborative relationships with internal and external partners to the university to collaborate on strategic wellbeing initiatives.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to articulate best practice standards in higher education around wellbeing and mental wellbeing through national, regional and local trends.
  • Assist in fiscal resource development through seeking, applying for, and managing grant opportunities focused on wellbeing.

SALARY RANGE:

The base salary for the Wellbeing Specialist is in the $50’s. We offer a generous retirement plan that includes 6% matching, 10 hours of annual leave each month, 9.34 hours of sick leave each month, and eleven paid holidays. Relocation benefits are available per university’s guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

· A Master's degree in Public Health, Counseling, Higher Education, Healthcare, Healthcare Administration, Psychology, Social Work or related by start date.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship in not available for this position.
  • At least one year of experience promoting wellbeing through program development, implementation, and evaluation to a variety of audiences.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; and
  • A valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated experience leading programs, initiatives and/or trainings focused on mental health and/or well-being for students, faculty, and staff audiences;
  • Professional experience in a higher education setting;
  • Experience working with, interpreting, and presenting data findings;
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with people from a variety of backgrounds; and
  • Grant writing and administration experience.
