What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Technician position at South Miami Animal Clinic?
Responsibilities (include but not limited to)
- Medical documentation.
- Preparatory work for examination rooms and surgical procedures.
- Create invoices and prepare treatment related materials.
- Preform physical assessments which includes safely restraining pets, taking vital, and fecal flotation/direct.
- Understanding canine/feline vaccinations and protocol.
- Maintaining a clean and orderly facility.
- Gives SQ, IM, and IV injections.
- Surgical assistance and postsurgical care.
- Communicate effectively with client’s about their pet's medical needs and refer to licensed veterinarian when recommendations are requested.
- Posing patients for radiographs.
Additional information
- Minimum of 18 years old.
- Knowledgeable in the use of bloodwork machine, tablets, vital signs monitors, veterinary anesthesia machines, autoclaves, dental equipment, microscope, and infusion pumps.
- Genuinely enjoys working with animals and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed, ill, or in pain.
- Can stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
- Is well-spoken and approaches job duties in a mature nature.
- Is experienced in the teamwork approach and works well with all levels of hospital team members.
- Physical Effort: Work requires lifting and carrying animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs). Walks or standing for extended periods of time; frequently works in a bent position.
- Working conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises, and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious diseases.
