What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Technician position at South Miami Animal Clinic?

Responsibilities (include but not limited to)

  • Medical documentation.
  • Preparatory work for examination rooms and surgical procedures.
  • Create invoices and prepare treatment related materials.
  • Preform physical assessments which includes safely restraining pets, taking vital, and fecal flotation/direct.
  • Understanding canine/feline vaccinations and protocol.
  • Maintaining a clean and orderly facility.
  • Gives SQ, IM, and IV injections.
  • Surgical assistance and postsurgical care.
  • Communicate effectively with client’s about their pet's medical needs and refer to licensed veterinarian when recommendations are requested.
  • Posing patients for radiographs.

Additional information

  • Minimum of 18 years old.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of bloodwork machine, tablets, vital signs monitors, veterinary anesthesia machines, autoclaves, dental equipment, microscope, and infusion pumps.
  • Genuinely enjoys working with animals and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed, ill, or in pain.
  • Can stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
  • Is well-spoken and approaches job duties in a mature nature.
  • Is experienced in the teamwork approach and works well with all levels of hospital team members.
  • Physical Effort: Work requires lifting and carrying animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs). Walks or standing for extended periods of time; frequently works in a bent position.
  • Working conditions: May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises, and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious diseases.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $18.00 per hour

  • 8 hour shift

Experience:

  • Veterinary experience: 1 year (Required)

  • English (Required)

License/Certification:

  • Veterinary Technician Certification (Preferred)
