    Job Summary
    Facilitate utilization of evidence-based and positive behavior practices that help students develop; support programmatic changes and individual approaches to student behavior, and assist staff in developing individualized interventions. Design and maintain behavioral support systems in the building. Promote a positive behavioral support mindset with staff and students.

    Job Functions
    • Develop equitable systems by leading positive behavior programs and strategies such as Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS) initiatives, BARR (Building Assets, Reducing Risks), Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Innocent Classroom, and de-escalation techniques.
    • Develop interventions, functional behavior assessments and behavior plans for the purpose of providing a safe and effective educational environment for students with challenging behaviors.
    • Develop procedures and training materials for district staff involved with students with challenging behaviors for the purpose of enhancing programs for students and ensuring that program operations are in compliance with established guidelines.
    • Communicate with appropriate teachers and other district staff personnel as necessary on behavior matters.
    • Cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, staff, families and community members.
    • Actively participate in behavior intervention meetings and professional development.
    • Collect data and record anecdotal student progress notes and maintain behavioral charting data.
    • Provide work direction and guidance to Student Behavior Assistants on strategies to address student behaviors, de-escalating techniques, and re-integrating students back into the classroom.
    • Provide behavioral assistance to families as requested by the principal, teacher, or district staff.
    • Conduct workshops, training, in-service presentations, etc. in classroom management techniques and other topics for the purpose of developing skills and establishing effective relationships with behaviorally or emotionally challenged students in alignment with district programs.
    • Participate in a variety of meetings, workshops and committees for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.
    • Implement classroom management system as applicable.
    • Adhere to district policies and procedures.
    • Demonstrate prompt, regular and reliable attendance.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.     • Current Minnesota teaching or administrative license
    • Current Master’s degree, or working towards a Master’s degree, in Behavior Analyst, Special Education, Administration, or related field
    • Successful experience implementing school wide system of positive behavior intervention
    • Trained in and demonstrated effective use of positive behavior strategies and de-escalation techniques in classrooms.
    • Current Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Certification or Personal Crisis Management (PCM) or willingness to receive and maintain certification
    • Successful classroom experience preferred
    • Considerable knowledge of students’ learning styles and needs, both academic and social emotional
    • Experience with applicable age students who have behavior challenges
    • Knowledge of, and ability to implement, behavior management techniques
    • Ability to monitor and observe student behavior according to approved policies and procedures
    • Ability to facilitate and regulate emotionally charged situations
    • Excellent communication skills with families, students and staff
    • Knowledge of and understanding for the legal and ethical requirement to keep information about students and families confidential
    • Effective leadership skills
    • Ability to work flexible hours to accommodate the needs of parents, students, and supervisors
    • Ability to perform routine computer functions, including the use of Google apps, email, Internet navigation and Microsoft Office

    Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to kneel, reach, stand, walk and climb stairs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
