Job Overview:

The Director of Medical Staff Services is responsible for oversight of the SEARHC Medical Staff Services Department which includes the credentialing and privileging of all providers at all SEARHC locations, system wide compliance of the medical staff with state and federal agencies (e.g., HRSA, TJF, CMS), and coordination of the various committees of the organized medical staff. The Director will implement and direct activities promoting the short- and long-term goals as defined by the SEARHC Accreditation Governing Body, Board of Directors, Senior Leadership, and Medical Staff. The Director is responsible for ensuring compliance to the medical staff bylaws, rules & regulations of the Medical Staff, laws/rules/regulations of the State, TJC, CMS Conditions of Participation (COPs) and other applicable Federal regulations. The position is responsible for supporting the Medical Executive Committee (MEC) in all investigations, and disciplinary work in accordance with the Bylaws.

 

Salary: $70.59-$81.92 per hour, DOE

Responsibilities:

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job 

  • Directs and supervises the SEARHC Medical Staff Services Office, to include Credentialing Specialist(s). 
  • Directs the alignment and standardization of policies and procedures of the SEARHC Medical Staff Services Department. Works to identify best practices and implement new processes and policies to improve med staff credentialing processes. 
  • Directs the management of medical staff sub-committees, section and committee meetings, and recording of minutes, meeting preparation, and follow-up. 
  • Works collaboratively with the Chief of Staff to provide all necessary reports and information to the SEARHC Accrediting and Governing Body in a clear, concise, and timely manner.  
  • Responsible for Medical Staff Joint Commission Accreditation, survey audits, and any needed follow-up for continuing compliance with regulatory agencies (State of AK, TJC, CMS, HRSA, and any other accrediting bodies) 
  • Manages medical staff services department resources and budgets to meet SEARHC strategic objectives. Serves as an administrator for CACTUS credentialing software within Consortium. 
  • Assists medical staff leadership at SEARHC with Medical Executive Committee (MEC), and Performance Quality Improvement Committee (PQIC), etc. Coordinates with appropriate leadership regarding agenda, supporting information, manages meetings and is responsible for minutes and follow-up. 
  • Builds/Maintains relationships with SEARHC Providers, Management, Departments, Staff, and outside agencies. 
  • Provides oversight, training, and support to the Medical Staff Services Department. Coordinates ongoing training for MEC such as training conferences and online resources. 
  • Works actively with Directors of Human Resources and operational divisions to provide and continuously improve provider onboarding, orientation, and support.  
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications:

Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field. 
  • Master’s degree preferred and may substitute for some experience. 
  • NAMSS Certification CPCS and/or CPMSM or must obtain within one year of hire.

Experience Required 

  • 7 years of leadership experience in a healthcare environment, including work in Medical Staff Credentialing.

Computer Skills:   

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Travel Required:   

  • Must be able to travel 10% of the time.

Safety and Risk Management Responsibilities:   

  • Employees are responsible for complying with safe work rules; reporting all accidents and injuries immediately; cooperating in all accident and injury investigations; reporting defective equipment and unsafe conditions.

Physical Demands:   

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. 
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must lift and/or move 50 lbs.

Work Environment:   

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
