SUMMARY:

The basic function of the Shop Manager is to oversee preventative maintenance, repair, and maintenance of company equipment and to supervise employees performing such work. The shop manager also assists field personnel with equipment needs and any special needs on certain jobs.

 

AUTHORITY AND REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

The Shop Manager at Southeast Pipe Survey, Inc. is hired by, and reports to the Construction & Fleet manager. This position supervises the fabricator, electrician, mechanic, and other full and part time shop personnel. The Shop Manager has the authority to order parts needed for repair and maintenance of company equipment. This person may also purchase tools as needed to maintain the proper tool for the job. 

 

THE SHOP MANAGER DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Adheres to all OSHA and DOT safety standards.
  • Adheres to Southeast Pipe’s Code of Business Ethics and Conduct, Employee Policy Manual, and Quality Manual.
  • Manage all shop personnel to ensure that repairs are completed as efficiently and economically as possible.
  • Train, supervise, evaluate, and coach subordinate positions, which report to the Shop Manager
  • Maintain records on all repair costs, parts, and labor.
  • Report any damage and abuse to equipment to the Construction & Fleet Manager.
  • Ensure that shop rules and repair procedures are followed.
  • Keeps and maintains time sheet for all shop personnel including their own.
  • Review and update, including closing, all work orders daily.
  • Order and track all parts need for repairs. (Charge out invoices to proper work orders)
  • Perform additional tasks as required to meet the overall objectives of Southeast Pipe.

 

MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE:

  • Minimizes equipment downtime.
  • Zero shop incidents or accidents.
  • Zero repeat-repairs due to shop errors.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • 3 years experience in shop management
  • Knowledge in diesel and automotive repairs.
  • Basic Excel Spreadsheet experience (Can create, modify and print. Can accurately create basic formulas.)
  • Servant Leadership Style  
  • Able to balance information on multiple projects and multiple crews
  • Excellent Communication Skills (verbal and nonverbal, including face-to-face, phone, e-mail, text etc.)

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, or boards of directors.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to perform basic mathematics: adding, subtracting, multiplication, and divivsion. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the Shop Manager is required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, talk or hear, and taste or smell. They occasionally must stand, walk, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. They should have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Vision requirements of this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the essential functions of this position, the Shop Manager is occasionally subjected to wet and humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
