DISTINGUISHING JOB CHARACTERISTICS
This part-time job is a support position for the Information Technology (IT) Department. This position assists in the IT Department Office to serve faculty, staff and students who visit, call or email the office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must perform essential duties to expected performance standards. Reasonable accommodations are made as required for persons who are disabled under the Americans With Disabilities Act.
Provide excellent customer service with accuracy when providing information.
Act as a help desk attendant by assisting walk-in customers and answering questions related to the SSCC online service ticket system.
Answer incoming phone calls, mail, and communications.
Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
Maintains confidentiality of confidential or sensitive records and information.
Works assigned schedule, and exhibits regular and punctual attendance.
Training will be provided by SSCC IT staff.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs other related duties as required.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED
Computer; printer; calculator; copier; fax machine; telephone; and other standard office equipment.
CONFIDENTIAL DATA
Confidential information included in the College computer system; Student and other information covered by FERPA guidelines and agreed to in the College’s FERPA Confidentiality Agreement; Student social security numbers; Student, staff, and faculty log-in information; Computer administration log-in information.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Good office working conditions. The work requires using safe work practices with office equipment, and observance of general safety. This position is located at the Central campus (Hillsboro).

Individuals will be regularly required to sit; use their hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with their hands and arms, and talk or hear. Frequently use keyboard/mouse. The participant may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus (computer screen and documents).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: Microsoft Office computer software programs.
Ability to: comprehend job protocols, develop, work independently demonstrating initiative; develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, job contacts, and the general public; maintain confidential and sensitive information; maintain accurate and complete work records.
Skill in: strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communications; operating job-related equipment; Microsoft Office applications.
QUALIFICATIONS
Interested students must have a completed Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with Southern State and be eligible for need-based federal aid (Federal Pell Grant and/or Subsidized Direct Student Loans). Students employed in the federal work-study program will be paid directly by a paycheck from the college twice monthly.
Students must also be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours a semester and meet the College's satisfactory academic progress criteria.
Ability to demonstrate clear evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff, and the community.
Applicant must successfully pass required background checks in accordance with Southern State Community College’s policies and procedures and applicable laws.
Ability to document identity and employment eligibility as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.
