Fire Protection Design Engineer Intern and College Grad

Our internship program is designed to introduce candidates to a career in the field of Design Engineering for the Design/Build HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection industry. Primary responsibility is to assist the design team in all aspects of our work.

What you’ll do as a Fire Protection Engineer Intern:

•  Work with a team of experienced design engineers to create fire protection systems.
• Play a crucial role in conceptual design for specific projects and represent the company as a design professional at project team meetings.
• Implement LEAN design build principles for our customers.
• Create just-in-time designs and deliverables to support the estimating and sales process.
• Visit project jobsites and partner with the field for just-in-time feedback on compliance with construction documents and resolution of design issues during the construction phase.

About You:

You’re pursuing a degree that aligns with Southland needs:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering; or in a related field. 

What you’ll gain from our Student Programs at Southland Industries:

• You’ll increase your knowledge of design to include types of equipment utilized in the industry as well as general understanding of system operations.
• You’ll have the ability to communicate with all levels of management, including project management and field trades.
• You’ll learn to read mechanical and plumbing plans.
• You’ll be able to strengthen your general business writing skills and gain additional experience with CADD and other products.
