What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Technician (A Level) position at Southland Transit?
Job Summary:
We are seeking an A level bus technician. In this role, you will assist with various tasks related to vehicle maintenance and repair. The position provides all aspects of maintenance to the fleet of assigned transit buses assigned. A successful candidate must present a professional image to all customers, drivers, and fellow maintenance staff. Most importantly, a successful candidate will maintain the highest standards of safety, quality of work and attitude.
General Responsibilities and Functions:
- Perform PM Inspections at required intervals. Ability to diagnose and repair defects identified during the PMI.
- Daily, reviews all Driver’s Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and address any complaints noted by operator. Sign off on all DVIRs reviewed.
- Promptly generate an accurate work order after all performed repairs.
- Works with and follows the directions given by the shift Lead Technician.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines while operating a bus in the yard or on the street.
- Repair or replace major coach system components, including, but not limited to, engine, electrical, suspension, fueling, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- The ability to perform brake replacement on air Disc and Drum braking systems.
- Repair minor damage to interior or exterior of Bus including, but not limited to, torn seats, trim, molding, and lighting components.
- Responds as needed to bus service road calls.
- Works closely with Dispatch to resolve mechanical issues reported by operator’s while in service.
- Disassembles, cleans, inspects, and rebuilds CNG engine systems and their mechanical related components.
- Ability to diagnose engine, transmission, suspension, and air brake systems.
Software Proficiencies Required:
- Must be able to work with Cummins Insite and Allison diagnostic programs.
- Ability to work with Microsoft software products.
Work Environment/Demands of the Position:
- Ability to handle stress and long hours, including emergency response calls.
- Must be able to work any shift. Must be able to switch work shifts on short notice.
- Generally, works in a non-climate-controlled shop environment.
- Must be physically able to perform all duties as required. No physical limitations allowed.
Additional Requirements:
- This position is safety-sensitive will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
- This position requires a good driving record.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of 4 years heavy duty truck or bus repair experience. At least 2 years as a bus mechanic.
- Must have a valid class “B” commercial driver’s license at the time of hire or within 45 days from the hire date.
- Must have clean DMV Record with no drug or alcohol related offences in the last 10 years.
- Ability to understand, speak, read, and write in English.
- Must have own tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- ASE certifications for Truck, School Bus, or Transit Bus a preferred, but not required.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
