SUMMARY:
The Endoscopy Tech is responsible for assisting with both clinical and clerical duties and assisting the professional staff in delivery of quality care to patients. Endo Tech is responsible for coordinating communications occurring at the nurse’s station while assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care and the provision of safety assigned to patients. Provides customer service to patient’s families, visitors, physicians, co-workers, and other medical and non-medical personnel. Endo Tech verifies the patient’s name and type of procedure, enters the patient’s information into the computer system, assists with vital signs in the recovery area under the supervision of the RN, assists in the transport of patients, enters charges for the department, reprocesses endoscopes and operating reprocessing equipment, stocks and reorders supplies, and performs quality checks on the AER.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Correctly transcribes physician’s orders into mainframe using appropriate forms.
- Follows SGNA Practice Guidelines and Position statements relating to the safe and effective practice of gastroenterology and Endoscopy nursing.
- Enters all orders, charges accurately.
- Makes proper charges for supplies, equipment, and services.
- Provides excellent care to patients and/or family members.
- Assumes responsibility in the restocking of the department to ensure that all needed supplies are readily available.
- Accurately enters patient and procedural information into the Olympus EndoWorks system.
- Retrieves previous procedures from the Olympus system when needed.
- Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and facility regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
- Understands and adheres to compliance standards as they appear in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflicts of Interest Policy.
- Demonstrates age-specific skills as required by position.
- Offers suggestions on ways to improve operations of department and reduce costs.
- Attends all mandatory education programs.
- Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes.
- Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills checklists, skills labs, annual safety and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements.
- Willing to cross-train in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in department.
- Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects.
- Manages resources effectively.
- Reports equipment in need of repair in order to extend life of equipment.
- Makes good use of time so as to not create needless overtime.
EDUCATION:
* High School Diploma or Equivalent
OTHER INFORMATION:
* Must maintain BLS certification.
* Minimum of two (2) years experience as Endo Tech preferred.
* Graduate of accredited scrub tech program preferred.
