Analyst II/Accounting (Internal Financial Reporting)

The Analyst II/Accounting is an individual contributor in one of the following functions in the Controller's area of Southwest Gas Corporation (SWG): Accounting Control, Accounts Payable, External Financial Reporting, Gas and Regulatory Accounting, Contract Audit, General Accounting, Internal Financial Reporting, or Property Accounting.

POSITION DIMENSIONS

The incumbent does not have accountability for people or budgets. The incumbent infrequently exchanges information with officers, outside vendors and consultants and frequently exchanges information with internal professional level personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS

There are clear precedents and practices that the incumbent uses as guidelines to determine how this job is performed. This position requires three to five years of relevant work experience and a bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Accounting, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential job responsibilities. A high level of analytical problem solving skills, advanced knowledge of Oracle EBS Suite, PowerPlan and Excel are preferred. In addition, this position requires the demonstration of technical writing ability.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide subject matter expertise in the development and maintenance of records necessary to accurately and efficiently provide management with information on all financial aspects of the Company for one or more functional accounting areas
• Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial statements, reports, regulatory filings and various supporting schedules for internal and external reporting purposes, maintaining compliance with all Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) requirements and regulations (e.g. ERISA, Security Exchange Commission (SEC), Sarbanes Oxley (SOX), etc.)
• Conduct and document detailed accounting and financial research, analysis and work assignments in compliance with all corporate standard practices as well as contractual and legal requirements (e.g., contract terms, tariff provisions, state laws, Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations, SOX requirements, U.S. Treasury, banking institutions, etc.)
• Record, analyze and report gas costs and volumes; record, analyze and report regulatory account transactions; perform and document research on unique transactions and regulatory requirements.
• Analyze, reconcile and review various general ledger, bank, supplier and large customer accounts; prepare and review monthly journal entries, as required
• Provide accounting and system expertise as it relates to the design, testing, implementation, upgrade, maintenance and end-user support of accounting-related systems and software applications
• Analyze, interpret and report margin and budget variances for Company operating divisions
• Participate in business process reviews, providing guidance to process owners to ensure adequate, efficient control of Company records and compliance
• Assist in implementation of regulatory issues and/or changes which have an accounting impact
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned

SALARY DETAILS

$65,258 - $97,886
