The Supervisor/Geographic Information System (GIS) supervises and provides leadership in the Division GIS Department. This position is responsible for supervising and maintaining current knowledge of all Southwest Gas GIS applications including but not limited to; ESRI ArcGIS, Schneider Electric ArcFM, FieldSmart View, AutoCAD, GSI Trimble and GPS Post Processing Software and Hardware, DNV/GL Model Builder, Synergi, Capture and PaperVision Scanning Software and Division specific manuals and procedures: As-Built Drawings, Design Drawings, Posting Standards and Land Base Procedures. This position creates and executes custom spatial data queries using Perl & Python programming language and analyses to support data requests for State, DOT and operations pipe integrity programs and identify and correct data quality issues ; evaluates system performance and enhancement requests from users; acts as a liaison between the Division and the Corporate GIS Administrators.
QUALIFICATIONS
There are clear precedents and practices which the incumbent uses to determine how this job is performed. This position requires five to seven years of relevant work experience. This position also requires three years’ experience using ArcGIS/ArcFM Desktop. Also required is experience with Microsoft Office Suite, relational and spatial databases, basic GIS principles and cartographic knowledge, and Python scripting language.
The incumbent must possess a valid driver’s license.
The incumbent must provide innovative thinking and creativity and be able to interact with functional organizations throughout the Divisions. Good oral and written communications skills are needed.
The following are desirable qualifications for the incumbent to possess: degree in GIS or related studies; ESRI technical certifications of ArcGIS Desktop Associate or ArcGIS Desktop Developer; Schneider Electric ArcFM Certification; AutoCAD map 3D Proficiency; MapFrame FieldSmart Standard Viewer or other Mobile GIS viewer application proficiency; Trimble Pathfinder Office proficiency; experience using GIS applications.
POSITION DIMENSIONS
Reporting directly to this position are up to two exempt employees and up to twelve non-exempt support staff personnel and contractors. The incumbent frequently communicates and exchanges information with management outside of Engineering and with contractors and vendors.

$66,996 - $83,745
This position is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) under Title 49 CFR Part 382 and Part 40. Any applicant/employee who performs a DOT covered function or is licensed and would operate a commercial vehicle for the Company will be subject to drug and alcohol testing under the Company’s DOT drug and alcohol testing programs.
