Maintenance Manager

Description

Summary

Oversee the maintenance department and ensure consistent mechanical reliability of the ethanol plant.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

1. Manage internal maintenance staff and external contract labor as needed to maintain the facility. 
2. Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs and systems to minimize downtime of the facility. 
3. Plan, develop and implement procedures to improve operations, minimize operating costs and affect greater utilization of labor and materials. 
4. Responsible for developing and maintaining safe work practices within his/her scope of responsibility. 
5. Review maintenance work orders and set work priorities and assignments daily. 
6. Participate with facility management and quality control personnel in the development of major maintenance and engineering projects. 
7. Coordinate the activities of workers fabricating or modifying machinery, tools or equipment used in ethanol processing activities. 
8. Direct maintenance activities on utility systems to provide continuous supply of heat, steam, electric power, gas, or air required for plant operations. 
9. Develop and/or review production, quality control and maintenance reports and statistics to plan and accomplish plant maintenance activities. 
10. Advise and engage engineering staff on implications of new projects from a maintenance standpoint.
11. Assist engineering staff in vetting engineering projects.   
12. Secure requisite tools, equipment and supplies required for efficient plant operations. Hold oversight responsibility for maintenance of storeroom, inventory control systems and the facility’s inventory of tools and equipment. 
13. Inspect or coordinate inspections of plant assets for conformance with operating standards on a regular basis. 
14. Direct, train and oversee the activities of the Maintenance Department workers to improve work efficiency and performance. Assure compliance with the facility’s policies, work rules and procedures. 
15. Other duties as assigned.
16. Wear personal protective equipment as required in the plant.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Demonstrate expert mechanical aptitude and excellent troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to effectively manage, motivate and train employees. 
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Highly proficient with CMMS.
• Able to work effectively in a team oriented environment. 
• Valid driver's license required.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in maintenance, operations, or other relevant field required.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field preferred.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of the operations of an ethanol plant preferred.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50lbs. 
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders. 
• Ability to work in outside conditions and adverse weather. 
• Walking on catwalks at a variety of heights 
• Entering and working in confined spaces 
• Working at heights up to 200ft. with appropriate safety equipment 

Working Environment

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. 
• The employee is regularly exposed to dusty conditions. 
• The employee is regularly exposed to high noise environments. 
• The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather in all conditions. 
• The employee will regularly be exposed to chemicals used in the process.
