What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deckhand - Entry Level position at Southwest Shipyard- Channelview?
Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities are to assist all waterfront jobs with the following objectives:
· Assist Boat Captain in maintaining yard boats
· Assist Boat Captain in all shifting of barges.
· Maintain all boat apparatus: winches, cables, ropes
· Understand and follow all company regulations and safety rules.
Duties:
· Tie up the barges to the fixed structure on shore or other barges.
· Use appropriate ropes and procedures for tying.
· Contact Boat Captain for situations requiring his involvement.
· Follow the instructions of the Boat Captain.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Special Requirements/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Mandatory drug testing prior to employment, and will be subject to random, unannounced drug and/or alcohol tests during employment.
· Must understand company policies and procedures.
· Must have good judgment skills and work initiative, taking good directions from Manager.
· Understanding of company quality and environmental manuals and procedures described therein.
· Must have or be eligible for TWIC card.
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
· Barge chemical environment. Requires prolonged kneeling, standing, walking, twisting, climbing, and the ability to lift and carry in access of 120 lbs, assisted.
· Ability to work in varied conditions (i.e.: heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, etc.), inside and outside.
· Able to work in confined space, heights and operate equipment efficiently and safely.
SHIFT DETAILS: 14 Days on 14 Days off, will be living on boat on scheduled days.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $200.00 per day
