Team leaders are responsible for overall supervision, coaching and motivation of the team on a daily basis. As a team leader, you will

be the contact point for all technical and client service team members, so your communication and interpersonal skills should be

excellent. Team Leaders ensure the quality of patient care by through skill excellence, strong leadership and organization skills,

planning, targeted training, and communicating change. This role will serve as a liaison with hospital supervisors and practice

leadership to achieve the financial goals of the practice. This is a busy and diverse role that requires a dedicated and flexible

approach to ensure that the team and practice are able to perform at their best.

In Addition:


  • Work in conjunction with the Director of Human Resources to evaluate applicant skills and fit for the technical team
  • Assist the Hospital Supervisor with the interview process which may include reviewing resumes and applications.
  • Train new and existing staff to follow front and back-office procedures and guidelines set forth by you and the Hospital Supervisor.
  • Keep accurate records of all training in conjunction with the Hospital Supervisor. Hospital Supervisor will oversee general new employee orientation and Team Leader will oversee training on the floor.
  • Develop in-house staff training materials (in partnership with team leaders from other locations) that expedite the training of staff in an effective and cost-efficient manner
  • Seek out opportunities to further train or retrain employees.
  • Participate in staff training meetings. Be willing and able to teach technical, computer, phone, and client-relation skills to other staff members.
  • Establish work priorities for staff members under your supervision. Ensure that work is completed in a proper, professional, and timely manner. Maintain an efficient workflow.
  • Understand all HR rules and laws and demonstrate proficiency when working with staff.
  • Initiate disciplinary actions in partnership with Human Resource Director and Hospital Supervisor to help drive accountability and address performance, attendance and/or conduct concerns.
  • Provide verbal or written warnings for inappropriate work-related behaviors, and clearly state consequences for continued problems.
  • Ensure that the staff has appropriate training to handle all hazardous materials and radiographic equipment safely.
  • Ensure staff promptly reports all on-the-job injuries or bites to the Hospital Supervisor.
  • Assist in upholding all OSHA rules and requirements.
  • Develop and maintain an efficient medical record management system and other systems as needed to ensure high levels of customer service are met.
  • Demonstrate and promote a positive work environment.
  • Re-evaluate and discuss revisions of policies and procedures.
  • Know and perform receptionist or technician duties when necessary.
  • Promote teamwork to maximize doctor time.
  • Provide input to Hospital Supervisor on HR needs on the floor, such as adding staff, reorganization of duties, and other operational needs.
  • Ensure and assist coordination/direction of daily flow on the floor. For example: the doctors and technicians enter occupied exam rooms within reasonable time periods.
  • Foster front to back patient communication in order to maximize efficiency and improve customer service.
  • Maintain proactive communications with fellow team leaders to ensure practice or scheduling changes can be made without contention.
  • Be familiar with federal and state regulations regarding pharmacy, controlled-substances, OSHA, and staffing issues.
  • Follow established legal requirements when communicating with clients.
  • Understand various legal-consent forms in order to train staff how to explain these forms to clients, answer questions, and have clients sign the forms.
  • Understand how to operate all office business machines including computers, printers, fax machines, voice-mail and messaging systems.
  • Assist team in troubleshooting medical equipment issues.
  • Perform job tasks efficiently without rushing.
  • Show respect for clients, team members, and pets at all time.
  • Maintain constant vigilance regarding open doorways that could allow pets to escape from the facility.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding client and patients for whom the practice provides veterinary services.
  • Be prepared to handle pet or facility emergencies that may arise and follow contingency plans.
  • Follow established closing procedures to ensure security of patients, staff, data, revenue, inventory, and facility.
  • Build friendly, professional relationships with clients, and referring veterinarians and staff.
  • Assist Hospital Supervisor with resolving client and/or referring veterinarian complaints. Serve as initial contact.
  • Provide suggestions to Hospital Supervisor regarding opportunities for marketing and growing the practice.

Requirements

Minimum Qualification:

Must meet all qualifications of Veterinary Technician and/or Client Services role including the following

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in adaptability, change management, decision making, customer service, interpersonal relations, oral communication, problem solving, systems thinking, teamwork, initiative, and detail orientation.
  • Ability to orient and train as needed.
  • Set the example through a high level of leadership by wearing appropriate uniform, maintaining a neat and clean appearance, and being punctual.
  • Handle stress and pressure with poise and tact.
  • Smile and maintain an even, friendly demeanor while on the job.
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to appropriately address staff and client issues.
  • Utilizes sound interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates a high level of professionalism.
  • Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, Gmail, and ability to learn new systems.
  • Knows and uses proper medical terminology when speaking and writing.
  • Know and use basic medical abbreviations.
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language fluently.

Education

  • College degree, State/National Veterinary Technician designation, or comparable work experience

Work Experience

  • Three or more years of veterinary technician experience and at least one-year supervisory experience.


Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance, stand for long periods of time, and bend at waist and knees. Must effectively be able to read, speak, and write in English. Hearing, vision and speech at a functional level are required to meet the essential functions of the job. On occasion patients may bleed, urinate, defecate, vomit, or secrete other glandular fluids on your person, shoes, or uniform.

Working/Environmental Conditions: There is exposure to barking dogs and cleaning chemicals. This is an emotional environment due to death or illness of pets.
