Southwest Virginia Community College (Southwest) offers career-training programs innumerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, Southwest offers Associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. Southwest also has Associate’s degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
Southwest Virginia Community College is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Computer Operation Support Specialist.
Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for providing microcomputer and printer installations, troubleshooting, and support, both hardware and software, as well classroom support, including multimedia systems and HyFlex systems.
- Responsible for maintaining over 1000 nodes in top working condition.
- Serves as a technical resource for faculty, staff, and students.
- Manages and maintains patch management for system security updates and the imaging of microcomputer systems, as well as the management of security solutions and anti-virus products.
- Oversees the operation of the campus help-desk and is responsible for maintaining the work order ticket system in which to log and track repair requests.
- Prepares reports relating to repairs and equipment expenditures for repair as well as inventory for all equipment and generating reports as needed.
- Works with vendors to obtain quotes for the purchase of new equipment, replacement parts, warranty repairs, and returns.
- Provides AV support when needed.
- Supports four remote sites; therefore, some travel is required.
- Supervises part-time technicians.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
This position requires a one-year probationary period for both new hires and transfers.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer troubleshooting, repair, Microsoft Active Directory, for both Windows and MAC operating systems, Windows 10-11, and computer diagnostics.
- Must have excellent customer service skills.
- Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Must possess a current driver’s license.
- Must be able to successfully complete a background check.
- Certifications in computer repair, A , and/or networking
- Oracle and PeopleSoft experience
