Southwestern Community Action Council is a private non-profit agency whose mission is to facilitate the social and economic well-being of low-income families in Cabell, Lincoln, Mason, and Wayne counties in West Virginia. We are a leader in the development and provision of a variety of community programs and services provided by qualified, highly trained, client focused staff. Our programs include Early Head Start / Head Start, the Mason County Homeless Shelter, Weatherization Assistance, Case Management / Homemaker Services, Senior Community Services (Mature Worker), and Veteran Supportive Services.
We currently have an opening for an Accounting Specialist for our Community Service Block Grant program in Huntington, WV to join our team and achieve great things together.
Qualifications
Associate Degree in Accounting or related area. Must possess a valid driver’s license with safe driving record. Must successfully complete criminal investigation background check and pre-employment drug screening. Must pass an Excel skills test.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate Degree with two (2) years agency experience; or Bachelor’s degree with five (5) years non-profit/governmental familiarity; or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with one (1) year agency experience and five (5) years non-profit/governmental familiarity.
Position Details (This is a sampling of duties/responsibilities of this position)
Maintain grant files with approved grant awards, budgets, invoices and reports. Ability to read, understand, and interpret grant award documents/contracts. Knowledge of, or ability to learn, grants accounting in order to understand grant award agreements to manage grant financial reporting requirements. Knowledge of accounting entries and functions, working with databases, ability to resolve system issues, and extract data for analysis. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products, specifically EXCEL. Will be required to successfully pass an Excel skills test. Enter and maintain budgets into accounting system. Submit required reports to funding sources. Maintain files on agency cash receipts and journal vouchers. Print Accounts Payable checks. Prepare weekly agency deposits and record cash receipts in accounting system. Transfer related taxes within bank accounts. Remit State Withholding Tax payments. Close out agency programs in accounting system. Assist auditors as needed. Assist CFO as needed. Prepare information for funding source reviews. Agency postage allocation billing. Monthly journal voucher. Assist in payroll and accounts payable duties as needed. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
