Position Summary:
Responsible for carrying through with the planning, organizing, and directing clinical practice and associate management functions for assigned periods in the hospital setting. Supports the goals of Memorial Hospital, the Department of Nursing, and provides for the continuity and achievement of these goals and objectives. Establishes standards of practice and performance improvement methods to monitor and achieve hospital and department goals. Serves as support and resource to hospital managers and hospital personnel on assigned shifts. Requires flexibility in scheduling with the requirement of being able to work all shift patterns including weekends and holidays in order to maintain continuity of service and provide consistent coverage of nursing supervision to Memorial Hospital.
Reports to: Chief Nursing Officer
□ Required bachelor's degree in nursing. Master's degree preferred. Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing with current RN licensure from the Virginia State Board of Nursing.
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Requires sound knowledge base of nursing theory and practice. Must be assertive and must possess effective skills in oral and written communications. Must be strong patient advocate. Requires flexibility in adapting to work demands and priorities.
Requires full range of motion including handling and lifting patients and/or equipment, manual and finger dexterity and eye hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. May require lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds. May require frequent bending, squatting and kneeling. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires ability to work under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids
Licenses:
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia or degree in clinical health sciences curriculum preferred.
ACLS required with certification preferred.
Minimum of two years of experience as staff registered nurse in associated specialty. Management experience preferred.
