Sovereign is excited to offer full time, contract to hire openings with a great trucking company here in Olathe. This is a perfect opportunity to launch a career in the diesel mechanic field and there is a lot of room for advancement within the company. After you're hired on by the client you will be eligible for promotion, benefits and their bonus program of $400 every 2 weeks (based on performance and attendance). All you need is a little bit of mechanic type experience and a mechanical inclination. This company will train you on all the rest!

Schedule:

  • Second Shift : Monday- Friday 2pm – 10:30pm $21-$22 per hour (4 openings)

Position:

Tractor Technician – Level 1

Responsibilities:

Reports to and takes direction from Shop Management.

Repair and Diagnosis Responsibilities:

· Performs scheduled basic truck PM’s.

· Performs scheduled basic APU PM’s.

· Performs annual DOT vehicle inspections in compliance with federal regulations with the assistance of a DOT certified inspector, if not personally certified.

· Performs brake services and inspections in compliance with federal regulations with the assistance of a DOT certified brake inspector.

· Performs safety inspection on every unit worked on.

· Uses a plastic seat and floor protectors while working on a truck.

· Inspects the truck for any other mechanical problems and notifies Tractor Shop management of any issues found.

· Inspects and takes pictures of damage and reports it to Tractor Shop management.

· Identifies irregular tire wear and underinflated tires and assists with diagnosis and correction of the cause.

· Installs wheel assemblies and tires.

· Performs basic electrical repairs.

· Performs basic truck repairs.

· Performs basic APU repairs.

· Diagnoses basic truck tracking system issues and performs repairs

· Uses proper welding techniques and acetylene torch when necessary to repair truck.

· Completes the repairs noted on the Repair Order (“RO”).

· Completes assigned RO by the drop-dead time.

· Parks tractor on the lot after work is completed and ensures it is locked.

General Responsibilities:

· Ensures each truck brought in shop for repair has a current annual inspection.

· Ensures that the trucks idle shut down is activated on the following:

o All company tractors.

o Tractors currently under lease upon request of the Independent Contractor.

· Completes RO stories with concise and thorough details ensuring the 3 Cs are in the story.

· Hooks/unhooks commercial vehicle combinations, manually lowers, and raises landing gear, operates the fifth wheel release lever, sets and locks slider pins, opens and closes cargo doors, and climbs into and out of trailers.

· Ensures that all parts used are charged out.

· Notifies the Tractor Service Writer if the completion time cannot be met.

· Tags parts for warranty, completes warranty and registration forms and stores part in warranty room.

· Returns parts cores to the parts room.

· Cleans the work area and puts away any company tools used.

· Dumps the trash cans in the work bay daily.

· Checks the truck for current inspection decals.

· Attends company required training.

· Works in a safe manner in accordance with OSHA regulations.

· Promptly reports unsafe equipment and all accidents involving employee or Company equipment.

· Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Company policies and SOP’s.

· Trains other tractor technicians, upon request.

· Other duties or responsibilities as assigned.

On-Call Responsibilities:

· On-call, rotating weekend basis.

o Responds to all on-call requests in a timely manner and reports to work during assigned rotation.

o Completes assigned repairs when assigned to work on-call schedule.

Qualification Requirements:

· Previous experience or education in maintenance related field.

· Must have the aptitude to perform basic tractor preventative maintenance.

· Must have the tools required to perform the job.

Physical Requirements:

· Must be able to carry, push and pull items (1 to 100 lbs.) of varying size and shape.

· Must be able to operate an air operated impact gun that weighs approximately 60 lbs.

· Must be able to hook and unhook trailers from the tractor and turn crank to raise and lower landing gear on semi-trailers.

· Must be able to perform tasks that may require occasional bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, crouching, and balancing.

· Must be able to frequently reach for items at waist level, above shoulder level, and below waist level.

· Must be able to perform repetitive heavy lifting.

· Must be able to stand and work on concrete floors for extended period of times.

· Must be able to shift a manual transmission and operate foot pedals.

Work Environment:

· Employee may spend up to 10% of the time out-of-doors, exposed to potentially difficult environmental conditions.

· Employee may be subject to temperature extremes – summer heat and winter cold.

· Employee may spend 90-95% of time in the shop.

· Employee must be able to spend most of day walking on surfaces such as concrete, which may be wet from time to time.

· Employee may be exposed to noise and/or vibration levels, which may be higher than those typically experienced in and around passenger cars or an office setting.
