What are the responsibilities and job description for the 1180-Product Engineer position at SP Associates?
Lead technical development of new product, yarn, processes and technology for the company.
Responsibilities:
• Research new emerging textile, components, yarn, technology for integration into upholstery product.
• Research and advise management team on new equipment technology for manufacturing and support of innovations in upholstery fabrics.
• Identify and work with product development team to certify new global suppliers to support development direction.
• Direct and support global supply partners in development of fabrics, yarns in new products and processes through trials and process evaluations.
• Focus on and promotion of sustainability and environmental responsibility in the development of product.
• Guide design and development associates in technical design of new products.
• Assist in analyzing customer quality concerns and provide technical assessment and advice to quality assurance, purchasing and production staff.
• Develop modifications of fabrics constructions and processes to improve quality and profitability of product.
• Participate in the new line quality review process to help timely introduction of products that meet our expectations and those of our customers.
• Review all fabric specifications for completeness and accuracy to:
o Ensure correct assignment of process codes and communication of final specs.
o Work with Customs Compliance to ensure correct classification for HTS code assignment.
• Communicate with mills to complete Fabric Detail Sheets and specification sheets for fabrics being sourced.
• Complete required customer specification forms on the purchased fabrics.
• Interface with customers when needed to address problems and issues that arise outside of the quality control area.
• International and domestic travel required.
• Perform additional duties as required
• Minimum education level requirement: BS or Masters in textile engineering or Textile Technology plus on the job experience in the field.
• Years of relevant experience: 1 year experience.
• Product development and some experience in upholstery fabrics
