Head of QA

SPAN is looking for an experienced leader/manager and technical leader for the QA organization. SPAN QA drives a quality strategy in collaboration with developers and product for a complex hardware/software ecosystem. The SPAN products are designed to facilitate the electrification of millions of homes, and the quality of the products is key to legal compliance and the safety of our customers. The QA team works closely with Mobile, Web, Cloud, Device Software, the Systems and Systems Test team, Product, Design, and Customer Service in a mixture of Agile and Waterfall development.

In this role, you will:

• Lead and develop a team of world class QA engineers

• Build out a team of SDETs (Software Development Engineers in Test)

• Leverage automation and state-of-the-art tooling to drive an efficient, effective testing strategy

• Effectively advocate for the tooling and collaboration needs of the QA team

• Help the QA team thrive in a complex project management ecosystem with both Agile/Scrum and Waterfall sides of house

• Be product and user obsessed; be an an expert alley for our Product team, and a key stakeholder for user experience

• Drive the right balance between software focused, and hardware aware

• Be the advocate for quality strategies cross-functionally; drive a vision of what is best done by developers versus what QA does best

• Be responsible for a product that can impact the health and safety of SPAN users

About You 

You are an automation-driven, software-focused but hardware aware manager and software engineer in test.

Required Qualifications

• 6 years of experience managing a team of SDETs and manual test engineers

• 8 years of experience writing automated tests for mobile and web

• 3 years of experience being responsible for QA on a product that touches hardware

• Fluency with Python or Javascript

• Experience working with mobile and web testing tools and frameworks, such as Testrail, Selenium, Appium, BrowserStack, SauceLabs

• Comfort with working with git, bash

• Experience working in a fast-paced startup environment

• Comfort building green-field testing infrastructure

• A deep toolkit of management-craft soft skills for supporting people through servant leadership

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience in and preference for working in a rapid or continuous release cadence

• Experience working in or managing Agile/Scrum or a ScrumMaster or ProductOwner certification

• Experience in Javascript/Typescript

• Experience integrating third party testing and project management services together (eg Jira and Testrail) for automated monitoring and reporting

The U.S. base salary range for this position is $195,000- $218,000 plus benefits, equity and variable compensation for Sales-related roles. This range represents SPAN’s good faith estimate of competitively-priced salary for the role based on national, real-time industry data from companies of a similar growth stage. This range reflects minimum and maximum new hire salaries for the role across US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by location and individual factors including relevant skills, experience and education or training. This range correlates to the relative level of the candidate we believe we need for the role and may require an adjustment for candidates of a different level.
