Summary
The Staff Accountant supports the management teams of the various schools and accounting/finance teams. They are responsible for school and/or consolidated level costs and control, including general accounting, cash, fixed assets, reconciliations, and ad hoc analysis. Support month-end close and special projects as requested.
Essential Functions
- Process vendor checks, credit card, wire, and ACH payments weekly or as needed, process monthly sales tax payments.
- Administer American Express credit card program, including reward redemption.
- Maintain prepaid expense schedule and set up recurring entries.
- Manage cash, including daily rollforward and transferring money between accounts as necessary.
- Adhere to all statutes and regulations issued by federal, state, and regulatory agencies.
- Perform monthly review, recording, and reconciliation of fixed assets additions, retirements, depreciation, and tacking by location in accordance with GAAP and Company policies.
- File annual personal property tax returns for all locations
- Journal entries and account reconciliations as assigned, including debt schedules and inventory.
- Manage ASC 842 schedules and book entries.
- Work closely with the accounting team to complete the month-end close process.
- Assist with other accounting projects as needed.
- Support the accounting team in connection with ad-hoc projects and analysis.
- Provide suggestions and input to improve and optimize processes.
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience
- High School diploma or GED required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred
- 2-year experience preferred
