Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System is dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate care to the community we serve. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Nursing to lead our Behavioral Health Department in a rewarding and challenging role.

Position Summary
Reporting to the VP for Nursing/Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Nursing - Behavioral Health is responsible for leading, planning, organizing, directing, and monitoring the clinical and administrative functions of the Behavioral Health Department. This role encompasses overseeing other clinical areas related to age-specific populations and actively supporting Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System’s community engagement efforts. The Director will collaborate with department associates to foster the SRHS culture, vision, mission, and goals.

Minimum Requirements
Education

  • Registered Nurse with a Master's degree in psychiatric or mental health nursing, or its equivalent from a National League for Nursing-accredited school of nursing, or be qualified by education and experience in the care of the mentally ill.

Experience

  • 5 years of supervisory or management experience in a progressive nursing clinical setting.

License/Registration/Certifications

  • Current License with the South Carolina State Board of Nursing or Compact State.
  • BLS Certification.

Preferred Requirements
License/Registration/Certifications

  • National Board Certification in Area of Clinical Expertise and/or Nursing Administration (NE-BC or NEA-BC); required within two (2) years of employment.
  • PMH-BC (Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification).

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Develops individualized treatment plans in an interdisciplinary context.
  • Provides competent nursing care and therapy to the Behavioral Health population.
  • Directs, monitors, and evaluates nursing care provided.
  • Ensures compliance with CMS IPF PPS regulations (CFR 412.27) and other regulatory requirements for IP Behavioral Health units (DNV, CMS, DHEC).
  • Demonstrates competency in the use of restraints and seclusion in the Behavioral Health population.
  • Directs the day-to-day operations of Behavioral Health programs, implementing policies and procedures to achieve program goals.
  • Ensures appropriate therapeutic activity programs to meet the needs and interests of inpatients.
  • Oversees quality improvement initiatives, including clinical care and documentation.
  • Coordinates communication with other departments, health system entities, and local and state agencies associated with behavioral health.
  • Participates in health system committees and focus groups.
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise in crisis intervention and works effectively with the mentally ill population.
  • Ensures Behavioral Health staff receive necessary training in assessment, psychopharmacology, counseling, and recovery support.
  • Represents the organization in the community, specifically concerning the Behavioral Health population.
  • Familiar with community support systems, DMH resources, court system, etc.
  • Assists with EC Behavioral Health throughput.
  • Collaborates with Clinical and Non-Clinical Associates to achieve excellent outcomes and exceed national benchmark clinical quality initiatives.
  • Promotes a culture of service to deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Fosters a culture of best practice associate engagement.
  • Aligns resources to meet challenges related to declining revenue.
  • Develops departmental goals aligned with organizational and nursing strategic plans.
  • Formulates critical Annual Operating Goals aligned with the organization's strategic focus.
  • Ensures hospital compliance with professional, regulatory, and governmental standards of care.
  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts leadership and staff meetings.
  • Responds to emergent situations to promote optimal patient outcomes and address patient/family concerns.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of equipment needs, including purchase, maintenance, repair, inventory, and replacement.
  • Displays strong knowledge of budget preparation and fiscal responsibility in managing departmental budgets.
  • Commits to professional growth through management training and continuous education annually.
  • Develops, implements, measures, and monitors plans to improve associate professional educational levels on core competencies.
  • Enhances the quality of communications between the department and its customers, fellow associates, other departments, physicians, and the community.
