SPCA Florida is looking for 4 skilled Veterinary Surgical and Anesthesia Nurse / Technicians to join our dynamic team of 42 Technicians. Last year, 15,905 pets received the highest level of care from our state-of-the-art hospital with equipment that includes digital radiology, a full service in-house IDEXX lab, ultrasonography, and digital dental radiology to name a few.
Our Adoption Center is building a state-of-the-art surgery center to assist 5,000 homeless dogs and cats this year. The dynamic 10-member Technician team is led by two Shelter Veterinarians, who can do just about anything to save a life.
Our Medical Center/ Hospital works an 8-hour day from 7:30a.m. to 4:00p.m. with NO Saturdays. The Adoption Center offers staggered start times with a varied 5-day, 8-hour work schedule ending between 4-6p.m.

Candidates must have a valid FL Drivers License and reliable transportation.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience Required:
- CVT Graduate is a benefit. Equivalent professional experience is recognized.
- Knowledge of general anesthesia including pre-anesthetic/induction protocols, intubation, and proper preparation, use and maintenance of anesthesia machines, analgesic protocols including the calculation and administration of CRIs, monitoring of anesthesia during surgery and being responsible for anesthetic recovery is preferred.
- Prior experience with surgical pets and pet owners is a plus in the Medical Center for clarity with pet owners, patient admissions and discharge, assisting with surgical reports, and use of Avimark software in the Medical Center. Shelter Luv software is used in the Adoption Center. Training is provided for both.
- Preparation of patients for surgery - proper clipping, prep/scrub, and positioning is needed.
- Proficiency in sterile gowning and gloving, comfortable everyday experience with surgical asepsis and aseptic technique with regard to the patient and operating room environment is required.
- Proficient in taking radiographs
- Team player who is excited to advance their surgical/medical knowledge and share input and ideas based on knowledge and experience.
- Physically be able to lift patients/equipment up to 40 pounds and higher with assistance.
- 2 or more years' experience working as a surgery technician.
- Willingness to cross train for multiple areas of assistance.
- Ability to thrive in an ever-changing environment.
Bonus: The CVA online program is paid by SPCA Florida for technicians who are not a CVT and would like to earn their CVA.
