Job Title : Environmental Health Safety Specialist

Location : Waterloo, Iowa

Salary : $60-90K plus bonus

Job Summary of the Environmental Health Safety Specialist : The Environmental, Health, Safety Specialist position will be responsible for assisting the Corporate EPA and Safety Coordinator in monitoring and maintaining all programs, processes and procedures as they relate to the safety, health, industrial hygiene, and housekeeping for the Iowa facility.

Those duties and responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, initiating, administering, monitoring and continuously improving upon established safety, ergonomic and health programs;

ensuring that employees, supervisors, and managers are aware of, and comply with, all federal, state and local guidelines, procedures and protocols relating to the safe and effective operations of equipment, machinery and tools used in the fabrication, manufacture, coating and assembly of products produced in the Iowa Facility.

In addition, those safety, health, and housekeeping issues this individual will also be accountable for coordinating, administrating, and monitoring environment, fire safety, and security protocols necessary to comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.

Job Responsibilities of the Environmental Health Safety Specialist :

  • Assist with continually refining all plant safety programs, processes, policies, and procedures, including, safety committee, EMT / First Response assignments and training, CPR certification, Tornado and Fire Training, Blood Borne Pathogen Training, posting of required plant safety, security and signs etc.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with all governmental agencies including, but not limited to federal and state OSHA & NIOSH and / or other enforcement agencies and notices as required under federal, state and local laws.
  • Coordinate the periodic monitoring and testing of various work environment issues such as noise levels, air quality, respirator testing, hearing test, required physical examinations, compliance with Blood Borne Pathogen Stds.

  • Conduct thorough investigations of workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses.
  • Compile detailed reports outlining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with the safety team to perform regular safety audits of manufacturing areas.
  • Identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations and protocols.
  • Conduct routine safety walks throughout the manufacturing facility to observe and address safety concerns.
  • Engage with employees to promote a safety culture and gather feedback.
  • Detail findings and maintain log of actions.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety-related incidents and activities through the OSHA 300 log.
  • Input data into safety management systems.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of safety training programs for manufacturing employees.
  • Facilitate orientation level safety training and company trainings as required (forklift, etc.)
  • Work closely with the EPA / Safety Coordinator, safety team, supervisors, and employees to ensure a proactive approach to safety.
  • Act as a liaison between manufacturing staff and safety management.
  • Participate in the development and execution of emergency response procedures.
  • Provide support during emergency situations to ensure the safety of all personnel.
  • Assists the Corporate EPA / Safety Coordinator, with assigned tasks related to environmental matters such as air quality, storm water, solid waste, waste-water treatment, hazardous materials, etc.

Education & Experience of the Environmental Health Safety Specialist :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Safety Management or comparable discipline is preferred. Candidates with prior working knowledge of the principal functions of this position would be considered in lieu of a specified degree.
  • Prior experience in related disciplines of safety, health, and environmental.
  • Prior working knowledge of plant safety policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Prior working knowledge of federal, state, and local safety laws and enforcement criteria.
  • Prior working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental laws and enforcement criteria.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety with a solid understanding of manufacturing processes.
