2nd Shift Lathe Operator: Monday- Thursday 2:00pm- 12:30am

Spec Tool has been around for 54 years and continues to grow into the ever-expanding market of CBN, PCD, and ceramic cutting tools. Our niche business is that we engineer high tolerance, high precision solutions beyond the catalogue. We service the markets of oil, automotive, aerospace, alternative energy, sporting, and military, along with many other industries. We guarantee the product will perform as designed, this is an all-team effort from Sales, Design and Engineering, Programmers, Machine Operators, to the Shipping Department.

In addition to our immaculate space, we have a temperature-controlled production floor which makes any workday more comfortable, regardless of Michigan weather. We provide safety glasses, a safety shoe allowance, and an option for uniforms if you choose.

2nd Shift Lathe Operator: Monday- Thursday 2:00pm- 12:30am

Summary of Functions

Program, monitor, and operate lathe machine. Troubleshoot and edit programs as needed. Continually work to improve job speeds and quality. Measure first piece for conformance to specifications on print and routing. Obtain 1st piece inspection from qualified team member. Check parts using micrometers and appropriate gauges.

Follows inspection frequency according to chart on “Traceable Inspection Record” to maintain conformance, and documents conformance on “In Process Inspection” chart. Measure rates and notify supervisor of any discrepancies and document in “E2” comments. Ex. too low or high of rate, tooling issues, wheel dressing. etc.

Monitor tooling (wheels, holder, grit, tips, etc.) for wear and request replacement or repair of fixtures with supervisor. Ensure that all operations are complete, all parts are accounted for, and manufacturing orders are closed out before moving jobs to the next area. Ensure that all required paperwork is completed and input correctly into the Shoptech E2. Ex: good parts, scrapped parts, comments etc. Perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

1. Operates production machinery in a safe and efficient manner.

2. Demonstrates print reading and routing competency.

3. Produces the required quantity of parts within established specs & tolerances.

4. Use required measurement tools to ensure product meets customer expectations.

5. Communicate with team members and support teams to ensure continuous production of the correct product at high quality levels with minimal wasted time and materials.

6. Maintain required rates.

7. Trained in .3 Quality policy & objectives STP07-01, STP08-01, STP10-01, STP10-02, STP12-01, STP14-01, STP15-01, STP23-01, and Appendix A.

Skills

Ability to interpret and translate engineering designs and documentation.

Ability to follow directions and work well in a team.

Ability to safely operate machinery.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Positive attitude.

Ability to use E2 system.

Able to use required measuring equipment.

Education and experience

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience running a lathe machine.

Spec-Tool product knowledge or equivalent experience.

Physical Requirements

1. Prolonged periods working on feet, using tools, and preforming repetitive actions that entail frequent bending and stooping.

2. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.

3. Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
