Position Description
POSITION TITLE: Occupational Therapist
FLSA: Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold current AR State Board of Occupational Therapy Licensure
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: A full contract for this position is 190 days, with benefits as specified in employee contract. Contract will be prorated based on actual start date.
BEGINNING: 23-24 School Year
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Evaluate new students that have been referred for occupational therapy, and schedule therapy services for students who meet eligibility requirements.

Use standardized tests, and customized measures and/or observations to evaluate the student in areas of cognitive-perceptual motor skills, motor coordination, psycho-social development, self-care, muscle strength and range of motion, postural reflexes, needs for adaptive devices and vocational skills.

Evaluate treatment effectiveness by observation, evaluation, communication with family and other sources.

Utilize ethical treatment procedures involving physical, sensory, manual, cognitive, and recreational or play activities designed to: Maintain or improve motor functioning such as normal developmental motor patterns, range of motion, muscle strength, gross and fine motor coordination, and activity tolerance; improve level of functioning in visual, auditory, tactile, kinesthetic perception, and cognitive perception-motor integration skills.

Instruct the student in the use of functional and adaptive equipment and devices.

Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law district policy and administrative regulations.

Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.

Commitment to quality integrated education.

Assist with maintaining the orderly arrangement of materials and equipment.

Notify immediately appropriate personnel of any evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical conditions.

Maintain a safe working condition and safely operate electronic and other equipment needed to carry out job functions and responsibilities.

Additional Related Duties/Responsibilities as assigned.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
- Remain current on instructional practices in Occupational Therapy.
- Must have the ability to lift at least 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to endure prolonged standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, occasional reaching above the head or the shoulders, bending, squatting.
