Purpose
The material Plasma Exposure Experiment (MPEX) project at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a technical staff member to participate in the design effort.
Major Duties/Responsibilities
This position requires the design and development of the components using 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software. Significant experience with one or more CAD programs is required. Collaboration with other designers, engineers, and physicists in the creation of 3D components and assemblies will be a regular function of the position. The candidate will create 2D drawings to be used for fabrication, and communicate with staff and suppliers through the fabrication and assembly process, and so will require the application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and American Welding Society (AWS) notation. The position also requires managing CAD data, drawings, and other related design information (project database management) and may require directing and coordinating the work of other designers.

Training may be provided if support for projects in multiple systems is needed. Candidate must be a self-starter, able to work independently or in a team. Good communication skills, both written and verbal are required. Familiarity with fabrication processes and design for manufacturability is required.
Preferred Skills: Proficiency in using Creo is preferred. Experience in the design of components related to fusion reactors and plasma physics experiments, diagnostics, cryogenics, piping, vacuum, and radiation environments is preferred. Experience managing CAD data in a PDM environment (such as Vault or Windchill) is preferred.
