GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Intake Assistant is responsible for referral processing, providing accurate and complete data input for pre-authorization requests while effectively communicating to internal and external customers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Obtains initial and subsequent insurance authorization and pre-certification for in office procedures, treatments and services.
2. Researches additional or alternative resources for non-covered services to prevent payment denials.
3. Maintains a close working relationship with site Patient Financial Counselor.
4. Communicates with clinical staff, PFC, and management regarding restrictions or unique requirements for insurance plans.
5. Maintains a current working knowledge of authorization requirements for all payers, and of state and federal regulatory guidelines.
6. Assists in maintaining manuals, logs and other required documentation.
7. Demonstrates an understanding of patient confidentiality to protect the patient and the clinic/corporation.
8. Follows policies and procedures to contribute to the efficiency of the front office.
9. Covers for and assists with other front office functions as requested.
10. Other duties as may be assigned.

A. Education / Training:
- High school diploma or equivalent
B. Work Experience:
- A minimum of (3) years of medical business office experience with insurance procedures and patient interaction. Additional clinical background preferred
C. Certification, Licensure, Registration:
- None required
D. Other Qualifications:
- Knowledge of medical terminology. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Excellent computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite, EHR/EMR and insurance portals.
