Summary

The Housekeeping Supervisor works under the direction of the Executive Housekeeper. The Housekeeping Supervisor supervises the work activities of the cleaning personnel to ensure clean, orderly and attractive rooms. The HS will assign duties, inspect work and investigate complaints regarding housekeeping service and equipment and take corrective action. May take periodic inventories, train new employees and recommend dismissals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Inspects and evaluates physical condition of establishment,
  • Submits to management recommendations for painting, repairs, furnishings, relocation of equipment, and reallocation of space.
  • Periodically inventories supplies and equipment.
  • Investigates new and improved cleaning instruments and methods.
  • Assigns workers their duties and inspects work for conformance to prescribed standards of cleanliness.
  • Obtains list of rooms to be cleaned immediately and list of prospective check-outs or discharges to prepare work assignments.
  • Conducts orientation training and in-service training to explain policies, work procedures, and to demonstrate use and maintenance of equipment.
  • Attends staff meetings to discuss company policies and patrons' complaints.
  • Issues supplies and equipment to workers.
  • Performs cleaning duties in case of emergency or staff shortage.
  • Establishes standards and procedures for work of housekeeping staff.
  • Advises manager, desk clerk, or admitting personnel of rooms ready for occupancy.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises 2 to 12 employees in the Housekeeping Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
