The Family Skills Worker is an integral contributor to the Family Skills team. Must have experience working with children and families with multiple problems and the ability to relate to and engage with families is vital. Must have an understanding of the State of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ Family Preservation philosophy and intervention strategies which is essential. The successful candidate is a problem-solver. Spectrum utilizes a solution-focused approach to our service delivery.
The Family Skills Worker provides intensive, concrete services to children and their families involved in the Family Skills Program. The Family Skills Worker coordinates the delivery of services with the goal of increasing the family's ability to function successfully within its community.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Family Ecology, family and/or child development, Guidance and Counseling or Criminal Justice).
- One year of experience related to parenting, child development, or prevention services.
- Valid and unrestricted State of Michigan Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
- Reliable transportation
- Background Checks (i.e. MDHHS Central Registry Clearance, Criminal Background Check, Sex Offender Registry).
Skills: Social Work practice skills, interpersonal skills, time management skills, conflict resolution skills, computer skills, and documentation skills.
Knowledge: strengths-based family work, solution-focused treatment, wrap-around process, child development, child welfare laws, community resources. Training in Bavolek Nurturing Parent Model preferred.
