Mohawk Global is currently seeking an Import Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our Buffalo-based import operations team. The successful candidate must have expert knowledge of import operations, function as an exceptional people leader, and be driven to facilitate the implementation of white-glove customer service to Mohawk’s clients.
Responsibilities/Tasks Include:
- Responsible for Import product profitability including continuous improvement processes to increase efficiencies, reduce waste, and improve performance for Mohawk customers
- Manages and controls all ground cost margins and prepares monthly activity / revenue reports. Prepares and provides customers and overseas offices with rate quotations
- Supervises staff, responsible for hiring, coaching, training, and developing staff. Maintains employee records and completes yearly employee performance reviews
- Identifies training needs and opportunities to develop a highly skilled functional department
- Ensures customer and operations requirements are met and takes corrective actions in case of deviations from customer requirements
- Responsible for Import P&L
- Leads all related vendors to ensure the highest level of service is achieved as well as assists and answers customer inquiries and other related customer service functions
- Responsible for the accuracy of invoices, bills of lading, shipping statements, and the achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Assists in annual budget preparation for area of responsibility
- Ensures handling of required documents according to regulations and internal procedures
- Follows-up shipment status in the department, identifies incidents and ensures resolution of incidents
- Creates, builds and maintains excellent relationships with key supplier partners, including ocean carriers, overseas agents, and domestic truckers
- Continuously monitors supplier performance and develops improvement plan when required
- Creates, builds and maintains relationships with core import clients
- Acts as subject matter expert for ad hoc operational questions with regards to accounts which are being serviced
- Ensures that proper implementation of customer has been conducted before Operations is starting regular business service
- Supports continuous improvement in process flows for Import Product and serves as CargoWise expert
Desired Skills/Experience:
- 5-10 years of international freight forwarding experience, specifically in imports
- Strong knowledge of CargoWise freight management system required
- Considerable knowledge of all regulatory aspects related to importing
- Associates or Bachelors level degree preferred, with a major/concentration in International Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, or other related field
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database applications
- Demonstrated personal leadership skills, ability to coach, train, and develop staff
- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) desired
