SPEDxchange is currently in search of certified Teachers for a Therapeutic Day School. This position is a full-time opportunity that offers excellent benefits & pay, lots of hands-on training, and a small classroom size setting.

LOCATION: East Garfield Park(W Chicago)
POSITION TITLE: 3 openings, Elementary, Middle and HS
SUBJECT AREA: All subjects
DURATION: Full-Time, in-person
SALARY RANGE: $53,000 ($53,000 base, plus a bonus)

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Lives in IL, close to Chicagoland area
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Must have a valid IL Teaching certification(all subject areas welcome in secondary education)
  • Learning Behavior Specialist endorsement is a plus(have to be willing to enroll when you start if you are not certified AND the school will pay for you to go back to school )
  • Experience working with students’ severe behavioral issues
  • Ability to remain calm and organized in a fast-paced work environment.

How you Will Spend Your Day:

  • Instructing students with severe behavioral issues in all academic subjects
  • Students range from 9th to 12th grade and there are no more than 8 students per classroom.
  • Preparing and adapting materials for use in the classroom; maintaining classrooms and materials in good order.
  • Supervising students, in groups or individually, monitoring behavior to ensure that it aligns with programmatic expectations.
  • Providing educational direction and counseling for students at times of confusion, frustration, & emotional upset.
  • Developing and updating IEP goals and progress for students on assigned caseload.
  • Monitoring credits and courses required for graduation for students on assigned caseload; prepare assignments; grade assignments; prepare reports.
  • Contacting student’s parents in case of a crisis, emergency, and for general feedback on progress with administrative approval.
  • Presenting information at staff members, staff meetings, and to clinical staff regarding academic, behavioral, and/or social progress.
  • Informing clinical staff of social, emotional, or behavioral concerns of students.
  • Implementing and maintain behavior program policies and data.
  • Coordinating and communicating with other staff members in order to ensure consistent application of the academic and therapeutic program.
  • Supervising teaching assistants and individual aides.
  • Have awareness of all students in the program in order to ensure consistent application of the academic therapeutic program.
  • Maintaining the confidentiality of students and student records.
  • Attending all staff meetings and in-service training as requested.
  • Reporting any unusual incidents or safety concerns to the administration.
  • Supporting and promote administrative policies and goals
