This position is responsible for implementing, facilitating and enabling the Scrum process at the team level for a key BNSF initiative project. The Scrum Master has additional responsibilities to accommodate for the support of scaling Agile. The Scrum Master should be a servant-leader who ensures adherence to standard Scrum practices in order to continually improve the team’s performance.
Essential Functions
Ensure Scrum and SAFe process, rules, and ceremonies are properly applied by leading, facilitating and supporting the following:
Daily stand-up meetings
Sprint Planning
Sprint Retrospectives
Sprint Demos
Scrum of Scrum meetings
Release Planning Events
Coach the team to:
Become a self-governing high-performance team
Collaborate and effectively manage work
Resolve issues and conflict
Assist the Product Owner in:
Maintaining and prioritizing the Product Backlog
Writing and breaking down User Stories
Write and estimate User Stories
Refine the team’s work capacity
Provide transparency to the work and project status
Work with Technology Services leadership to help facilitate:
Release Planning Events
Scrum of Scrums
Program governance
System Demos
Team status reports
Stakeholder management and organizational change management
Collaborate with and escalate as required to the TS Application Development manager
Remove any impediments to the team’s progress
Create and maintain work visibility (Kanban boards, Agile tools, charts, etc.)
Gather and maintain team metrics
Desired Skills and Experience
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university or equivalent work experience.
At least one Agile methodology certification such as
SAFe SA (Certified Scaled Agile Framework Agilist)
PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP)
CSM (Certified Scrum Master)
PSM (Professional Scrum Master)
Formal facilitation training or mentoring under a Scrum Coach
More than two years managing projects and/or programs using a formal project management methodology (Scrum, Accelerated SAP - ASAP, Waterfall, etc.)
Experience managing stakeholders
Experience coordinating or serving on multi-team projects, and working in cross-functional teams or environments
Experience in business and solution development, project/program management, and project delivery
Excellent understanding of the system development life cycle
Ability to interact effectively with various levels within the organization
Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Master’s Degree from an accredited college/university (MBA, Information Systems or Computer Science)
