Senior Scientist, Cell Culture and Fermentation

Role: Senior Scientist, Cell Culture and Fermentation *5-10 years*
Location: Bethesda, MD
Objective: Develop viral vaccines, recombinant proteins and/or virus-like particles or monoclonal antibodies.
- B.S. in Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related life science degree
- 5-10 years of industry-level experience in cell culture development
- Experience with tech transfer of cell culture processes to manufacturing is required
- Authorization to work in the USA

Perform investigations and documentation of cell line growth:
- Troubleshooting of cell culture/fermentation processes : Optimization of conditions, Cell culture technology development,
- Improvement of cell culture platforms, Modeling of cell culture behavior and tech transfer of defined cell culture/fermentation processes to the clinical production facility.
- Perform cell culture experimental studies.
Provide support for lab operations initiatives:
- Training on equipment, processes, and microbial techniques.
- Consumables forecasting, materials inventory monitoring and supply.
- Equipment maintenance and support (Nova Flex2 Analyzers).
- Support VRC mRNA program through fermentation process evaluation, optimizations and material generation
- Liaise with NIAID IT to ensure robust performance and troubleshoot operational issues as needed.
- Standardize process operations across projects/scale: authoring SOPs and provide SME direction.
- Author protocols and other guidance documents.
- Participate in meetings, keep current with compliance obligations, and
- Contribute results and studies for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Contribute to Lab Operations initiatives:
- Capture process descriptions and results in lab notebooks, tech transfer documents, and technical reports.
- Serve as SME/functional lead in pDNA (microbial) process development.
- Serve as SME in setup, use, and maintenance of bioreactor control monitoring systems, including Lucullus or equivalent hardware/software.
