Senior Scientist, Cell Culture and Fermentation

They work with  top research organizations and facilities in the country, including multiple institutes at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Role:  Senior Scientist, Cell Culture and Fermentation *5-10 years*

Location: Bethesda, MD  

Objective: Develop viral vaccines, recombinant proteins and/or virus-like particles or monoclonal antibodies.

 

Experience Required / Requirements
  • B.S. in Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related life science degree
  • 5-10 years of industry-level experience in cell culture development
  • Experience with tech transfer of cell culture processes to manufacturing is required
  • Authorization to work in the USA

Responsibilities

Perform investigations and documentation of cell line growth:
  • Troubleshooting of cell culture/fermentation processes : Optimization of conditions, Cell culture technology development,
  • Improvement of cell culture platforms, Modeling of cell culture behavior and tech transfer of defined cell culture/fermentation processes to the clinical production facility.
  • Perform cell culture experimental studies.


Provide support for lab operations initiatives: 
  • Training on equipment, processes, and microbial techniques.
  • Consumables forecasting, materials inventory monitoring and supply.
  • Equipment maintenance and support (Nova Flex2 Analyzers).
  • Support VRC mRNA program through fermentation process evaluation, optimizations and material generation
  • Liaise with NIAID IT to ensure robust performance and troubleshoot operational issues as needed.
  • Standardize process operations across projects/scale: authoring SOPs and provide SME direction.
  • Author protocols and other guidance documents.
  • Participate in meetings, keep current with compliance obligations, and
  • Contribute results and studies for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Contribute to Lab Operations initiatives: 
  • Capture process descriptions and results in lab notebooks, tech transfer documents, and technical reports.
  • Serve as SME/functional lead in pDNA (microbial) process development.
  • Serve as SME in setup, use, and maintenance of bioreactor control monitoring systems, including Lucullus or equivalent hardware/software.
