Job Objective: Responsible for the administration, coordination and development of volunteer services and events in the Kansas and Western Missouri Division. Responsible for oversite of volunteer programs, including volunteer recruitment, screening, orientation, placement, recognition and evaluation of volunteers. Responsible for planning and execution of Kansas City metro events and supporting the successful planning and execution of special events across the division.
Essential Functions:
- Direct a robust recruitment program to grow the volunteer base, including both individual and corporate opportunities
- Responsible for regularly securing and presenting volunteer opportunities to the community, and coaching field Corps on replicating in their area
- Establish goals for volunteer services in the Division
- Coordinate all volunteer group activities in the KC Metro; support field staff in the same
- Maintain Better Impact database and provide training for designated end users
- Staff Liaison for KC Metro Women’s Auxiliary
- Plan and conduct volunteer recognition activities and events in KC Metro and provides information for ongoing recognition of volunteers at all units within the Division
- Develop and maintain volunteer job descriptions and program guides to aid in volunteer skills match. Ensure the screening process matches volunteer interests and skills to available opportunities
- Manage the background screening and MVR process for volunteers, following Territorial and Divisional policies
- Maintain a volunteer procedure manual for all units
- Develop and implement evaluation methods for the volunteer program and volunteers, participants and staff. Solicit feedback from volunteers; investigate complaints from, or regarding, volunteers
- Coordinate the statistical reporting of volunteer activities and maintain pertinent information
- Serve on Divisional Safe From Harm Committee
- Provide input to, and monitor, the annual volunteer budget
- Responsible for the planning, coordination, and evaluation of events, including, the annual Civic Event, Over The Edge, Red Shield Symposium, Christmas season events, Community Service events and others as assigned
- Provide leadership in the continued development of new events. Serve as a thought leader and expert in fundraising events. Work with development leadership team and Corps Development Managers on the development and implementation of an annual special events calendar that ensures the efforts, resources and volunteer time are utilized in a manner that provides the greatest return to the organization
- Ensure all events are planned to capture the attention of the intended audience and the media via the support of the integrated communication team
- Manage the production of each event ensuring all appropriate sponsorships benefits are fulfilled and all details are managed in a creative, timely and cost-efficient manner
- Create and manage special event budgets and adhere to approved targets and budgets
- Oversight/coordination with other department revenue and PR generating events as assigned (Example: Plaza Lighting)
- Serve as trainer/advisor for Field Corps in event management
- Active in local community, civic and volunteer organizations as the voice of The Salvation Army. Liaison with volunteer support agencies
- Participate in other seasonal, fundraising or other events as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred
Experience: Minimum five years’ experience in volunteer administration, event management or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to establish and build relationships
- Supervisory skills and the ability to build and motivate teams
- Computer literate including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook and databases
- Possess an aptitude in both written and oral communication with public speaking experience
- Good organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds

Travel: Occasional travel up 40%.
Driving: Driving is required. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.
Working Conditions: Most work activities are performed in an office setting and, in the residences, or work locations of donors and prospective donors. There are normally no hazardous or significantly unpleasant physical working conditions. A moderate amount of time must be spent in an office setting to complete essential work requirements position. The position also requires moderate levels of local travel, to visit donors, prospective donors and other relevant contacts in the community within a predetermined territory of responsibility
