Provides general labor in support of the maintenance function.
- Performs general labor tasks independently, or in support of other maintenance activities, at the direction of the Superintendent
- Performs grounds maintenance tasks, including, but not limited to: mowing, edging, weeding, herbicide application, fertilizer application, pavement striping, fence repairs, trash collection and general cleanup
- Performs facilities maintenance tasks, including, but not limited to: wall patching, painting, flooring repairs, plumbing, carpentry, and janitorial
- Operates snow removal equipment and performs snow and ice control duties, including, but not limited to: plowing, shoveling, sweeping, and application of deicing materials
- Performs traffic control duties in support of other maintenance activities
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Education/Experience:
- High School diploma or GED
- Two years' experience as a laborer in grounds keeping, construction, maintenance or a related field
- Valid state driver license, free of serious or frequent traffic violations
- Must have, or be able to obtain in the first six months of employment, certification in the operation of forklifts and man-lift devices
- Must have, or be able to obtain in the first six months of employment, a Washington State flagger certification
Knowledge/Skills:
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
- Must be able to communicate effectively both written and verbally
- Must show a high level of professional poise and personal bearing to deal with people and the ability to establish effective working relationships with others
- Must be able to work independently and use good judgment
Physical Requirements:
- Able to move about facilities & all areas of responsibility
- Must be able to bend, twist, and lift up to fifty pounds on a regular basis with the ability to lift seventy-five pounds on occasion
- Position requires being able to use hands to finger, handle and feel. Must be able to reach with hands and arms
- Must be able to climb and balance as well as being able to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
- Must be able to talk, hear and smell
- Ability to communicate via email and phone
Security:
Must be able to obtain and maintain an Airport security badge as a condition of employment.WORKING CONTACTS WITH OTHERS (INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL):
Regular contact with other departments, tenants and the public.
WORKING CONDITIONS, TRAVEL, ENVIRONMENT AND POTENTIAL HAZARDS:
Work location may vary, depending on assignment, with occasional travel on Airport complex and local community. Work may be performed around hazards in the mechanical shop including moving, mechanical parts, noise, chemicals. Some work is performed in high, precarious places. There may be exposure to fumes, airborne particles, petroleum products and other chemicals, as well as exposure to weather extremes. This is a moderately noisy to loud work environment with some exposure to electrical shock risk and vibration. Hearing protection and safety glasses are provided and required for some tasks.
