Purpose Of Position

Support staff members work closely with Transition Program employees and participants to maintain a safe, clean and supportive environment.

Position Reporting

This position reports to the Support Staff Supervisor.

Job Responsibilities

Monitor common areas and individual housing units to ensure the safety, security and cleanliness of the facility.

  • Conduct participant chore checks and room cleanliness checks to ensure all assigned tasks have been thoroughly completed. Collaborate with case management when necessary to help participants maintain program compliance in this area.
  • Clean and prepare empty beds/rooms for incoming participants.
  • Clean common areas of the campus and submit work orders when necessary.
  • Tidy offices and empty waste/recycling receptacles nightly.
  • Monitor visitors to the program when asked and ensure their visits are restricted to the appropriate hours/spaces and that their behavior is appropriate at all times.
  • Regularly walk the property, ensuring all exterior doors are locked. Log any activity that is out of the ordinary on the property or in the adjacent parking lot. Report any suspicious activity to the supervisor on duty or to authorities if needed.

Provide support services to program participants as assigned.

  • Regularly interact with each program participant in a professional manner, modeling appropriate boundaries and respect for all participants and staff.
  • Welcome new participants to campus as needed. Review program guidelines with new participants to ensure full understanding of expectations and rules.
  • Provide assistance and support to participants as needed, and in collaboration with case management staff.
  • Distribute mail and file mail for past participants.
  • Conduct and document scheduled urinalysis (UA) tests and random UAs as circumstances may require.
  • Assemble start-up baskets for incoming participants.
  • Conduct food inventory and deliver food boxes to participant units. Discard old/expired food and ensure cold items are put away in a timely manner.

Ensure all relevant information is documented and communicated directly to case management staff and/or program supervisors.

  • Ensure the safety and security of the Transitional Housing Program throughout the overnight shift when assigned.
  • Walk the property at least three times per night, ensuring all exterior doors are locked and noting any activity that is out of the ordinary on the property or in the adjacent parking lot. Report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.
  • Conduct participant room checks at random three times each night.
  • Monitor visitors to the program; ensure their visits are restricted to the appropriate hours/spaces and that their behavior is appropriate at all times.
  • Intra-Agency collaboration and communication.
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings.
  • Participate in scheduled trainings as requested by management staff.
  • Maintain regular direct communication, both written and verbal, with program supervisors and other Sponsors staff regarding participant progress and conduct, facilities operations, and organizational protocols/procedures. Serve as the “eyes and ears” for case management and administrative staff on day shift.

Other Duties as Assigned.

Requirements

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Will work nights/weekends and holidays
  • Knowledge of general safety procedures
  • Dependable and responsive to available on-call hours
  • Preferred experience in a social advocacy role

Education And Experience

  • High school equivalency

Work Environment

  • Shift assignment may require overnight facility oversight and participant interactions
  • Works at a desk in an office environment
  • moves throughout housing and buildings with stairs to check on and support participants

We have two campuses differentiated primarily by male-identifying and female-identifying participants. Due to the sensitive nature of some position duties, preference for gender alignment of staff with program participants may be considered when necessary.   • Current opening is for the Downtown Campus only. Other applications will be held for future openings.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to carry up to 25 lbs. up and down stairs occasionally
  • Sitting at a desk for extended periods of time
  • Standing and walking inside and outside
  • Working in outdoor, indoor, and refrigerated environments, sometimes with quick changes in temperature such as while loading and unloading of climate-controlled foods into refrigerators and freezers.
  • Uses office equipment and cleaning tools.
  • Exposure to noises at typical office and community living levels.
