What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Hockey Tournament Helper position at Spooky Nook Sports?

The Field Hockey Tournament Helper is responsible for the successful development and operation in a variety of disciplines throughout Nook Sports. These disciplines may include, but are not limited to the scheduling and development of our youth and adult recreation leagues.

NOTE: Because this position will involve routine interaction with children, all candidates must successfully obtain the following clearances PRIOR to beginning employment:

  1. PA State Police criminal history record,
  2. PA Child Abuse Clearance, and
  3. FBI Fingerprint-based criminal history clearance.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist the Field Hockey Director with day to day operations
  • Set-up and tear down of fields/courts for league play
  • Recording scores & standings
  • Provide communication to players, coaches and spectators regarding league details
  • Respond to coaches/captains regarding tournament issues
  • Coordinate in-game responses to injuries, game officials, unsportsmanlike conduct and field/equipment issues
  • Use various programs such as Max Enterprise and Tourney Machine to generate and disseminate schedules
  • All other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • PA Child Abuse Clearance and FBI Fingerprint Criminal History Clearance: Must be dated within the past 5 years and specifically for employment (not volunteer).
    • NOTE: If you do not have already these clearances, you will be provided with instructions when an offer of employment is made. Results can take up to 4-6 weeks. Both clearances must be presented before employment can begin.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older
  • Dependable transportation to and from the Spooky Nook Sports facility or program location.
  • Language skills: Fluent knowledge of the English language; including the ability to read and interpret written information and speak and understand verbal communication 
  • Ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the position with any reasonable accommodations as necessary
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as needed
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong leadership skills and guest services/customer service background
  • Previous participation in athletics/clubs/school programs preferred
  • Highly dependable with a history of consistent attendance and punctuality

Working Conditions

  • Physical requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the team member will be regularly required to perform physical activity that includes moving about the work area, standing, sitting, bending, reaching with hands and arms, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing and smelling. The team member will be frequently required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. He or she is required to have the visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
  • Must be physically capable of demonstrating skills during practice that relate to the sport, such as running and jumping.
  • Lifting requirements: The team member will be required to lift, push, pull, lower and/or move up to 10 lbs regularly, and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
  • Noise Level: The noise level in this environment is typically moderate to loud.
