What are the responsibilities and job description for the Filmmaking/Commercial Photography Instructor position at Spring Branch ISD?
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in related fields.
- Valid Texas CTE Trade and Industry Teaching Certificate with Film/Video Production/Commercial Photography approval or the ability to obtain one, or Technology Applications and work experience.
- Minimum two years of full-time wage earning experience within the past ten years in an approved occupation for Film/Video Production/Commercial Photography.
- Current licensure by a state or nationally recognized accrediting agency or a passing score on the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI)
- Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remaining qualified for this position in a manner required by Federal and/or State law.
- Candidates seeking CTE certification based on skill and experience must complete an approved educator preparation program (EPP).
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in the effective use of technology and software used in the Film/Video Production/Commercial Photography fields.
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior in multiple instructional settings.
- Ability to effectively communicate and work with students, parents, peers, administrators and business and industry partners.
- Continue development and refinement of an innovative, industry-standard program that meets the need for continued post-secondary education and priority occupations in Film/Video Production/Commercial Photography.
- Adhere to the district's philosophy of instruction. Develop and personalize lessons that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program and show digital evidence of preparation as required.
- Prepare lessons and evaluations that support differences in student learning styles. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies and administrative regulations.
- Conduct effective classroom and lab instruction while maintaining discipline in a positive, safe learning environment.
- Plan, develop and deliver instruction physically and digitally including extensive use of approved learning management systems and other personalized learning vehicles.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to meet the needs of special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Integrate academic core curriculum into meaningful, relevant curriculum; conduct effective classroom and lab instruction while maintaining discipline; create and maintain a positive, safe learning environment.
- Incorporate preparation to help students pass certification exams and earn a technical certification while in high school.
- Work with other staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives and methods according to district requirements. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
- Develop outlets for internships for students.
- Sponsor an approved student leadership organization and/or promote student participation in competitive events.
- Maintain a program advisory network made from members of businesses and industry specializing in digital media in order to keep curriculum relevant, fresh and to stay current with job placement demands.
- Create classroom environments conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Ability to manage lab computers and equipment in good repair including updates & inventory.
- Assist in the selection of software, equipment and instructional materials.
- Communication:
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals and teachers. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, community members and advisory boards.
- Work with counselors, staff, parents and students to develop recruitment plan and monitor enrollment.
- Recruit for the program by providing communication about activities and events that will assist recruiting potential students from other schools for digital and print distribution.
- Actively promote the successes of your students through school and district websites and news media resources.
- Plan and organize program budget expenses and maintain accurate financial records of fundraising and expenses of student activity accounts.
- Maintain accurately timely local, state and federal records as requested.
- Maintain a positive, working relationship with parents and support groups.
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Keep informed of and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compile, maintain and file all physical and digital reports, records and other documents required.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Maintain current technical skills in current and future software platforms including but not limited to Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom and more.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
