Position Overview:
1.0 FTE Behavior Specialist position to teach social skills and behavior management techniques, working with students grades 5-8 at Westwood Schools, primarily with Autism Spectrum Disorders and some Emotional Behavioral Disorders.

Primary Responsibilities:

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct functional behavioral assessments (FBAs) and develop behavior support plans (BSPs) based on results from the FBA
  • Collects and analyzes data to inform data-based decisions
  • Model, support, and provide feedback to relevant school staff on the implementation of BSPs
  • Collaborate with building administrators, school staff, and professional learning communities to ensure student needs are being met
  • Design and implement professional learning on core classroom management expectations and targeted behavior strategies
  • Maintain student records of services provided, following due process best practices and compliance
  • Participate in IEP and evaluation summary meetings, as appropriate
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned


Experience:

Previous experience or willingness to work with students who are requiring additional supports in the area of self-regulation and self-management. Additional knowledge or experience with due process/assessments/methods and current trends in the field of behavior interventions and support.

Qualifications:

  • Must have current Minnesota EBD, Autism or ABS teaching license.
  • Bilingual preferred, but not required (English and Spanish)
  • Experience in developing and providing direct social, emotional and behavioral instruction.
  • Experience implementing strategies for improving social skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds weight (and/or up to adult-size body weight with two-to-three person lift).
  • Experience with standardized assessment tools.
  • Knowledge of Special Education Due Process procedures.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate.
  • Ability to communicate with parent/guardian and team members.


Licensing Requirements:

Must have current Minnesota EBD, Autism or ABS teaching license.
