HEAD LIFEGUARD: AQUATICS
Department: Eisenhower, Nelson Center, Veteran’s Memorial Pools
Position Title: Head Lifeguard
Reporting Authority: Lifeguard Supervisor and Aquatic Director
Classification: Non-Exempt
Salary: $16.00 per hour
Position Summary:
Responsible for supervising entry-level lifeguards, part-time maintenance, ensuring the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies.
Specific Responsibilities:
Recognize and respond quickly and effectively in emergencies.- Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations.
- Inspect the facility on a daily schedule and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor.
- Complete records and reports.
- Participate in regular in-service training sessions and assist with instruction.
- Provide supervision of lifeguards and patrons to ensure pool safety.
- Ensure lifeguards are clocking in and out for their assigned shift.
- Maintain fitness level (swimming skills, strength and endurance).
- Fulfill job duties of the Lifeguard Supervisor if needed.
- Complete additional duties as assigned by the Lifeguard Supervisor, Aquatic Director and General Manager.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Current certification in the following-
Lifeguarding:
- American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid
- American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer

Lifeguarding:
- Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Certified Lifeguard.
- Demonstrate Lifeguarding knowledge and skills
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening
- Must be a minimum age of 17 years old
- Thorough knowledge and application of Lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques
- An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies and procedures
- Leadership and public relations skills
- Decision-making skills
General Requirements:
- Must be able to read and write and have good command of the English language.
- Good oral and written communication.
- Physical capabilities – lifts 50 pounds, squat, bend and move as necessary for the job.
- Must be able to perform basic mathematics.
- Must have basic proficiency of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Must possess professional phone skills and work well with the public.
- Must present a neat and professional appearance.
- Responsible to follow policies and procedures outlined in Springfield Park District employee handbook
