Every summer, thousands of kids come to one of our overnight camp locations for a week of adventure, learning, and growing. Whether in Evart, Michigan or Seymour, Indiana, SpringHill overnight is a fast-paced, high-energy experience for kids in grades 1-12. This role offers free housing and food, plus adventure, spiritual growth, and leadership development!
What does a SpringHill Lifeguard do?
Our Lifeguard has a specialized role in facilitating aquatic activities for SpringHill campers while being paired with a cabin as a co-counselor when not running activities. During activities, the Lifeguard is responsible for creating a safe and fun environment where kids can have life-impacting experiences. At the end of each activity period, the Aquatics Counselor leads a debrief that engages kids and allows them to reflect on how what they’ve experienced can relate to aspects of faith and life.
Daily duties involve participating in morning meetings, performing daily safety checks of structures/equipment, lifeguarding a variety of aquatic activities, facilitating debriefs, forming relationships with a cabin and co-counselor, and participating in evening programming whenever possible. Lifeguard/ CPR/First-aid certification is required. On-site training will be available (Dates TBA). There is a pre-course skills test that must be passed to continue certification consisting of a 300 meter swim (continuous, no stopping or standing), treading water without arms for 2 minutes, and a timed brick retrieval. (Swim 20 meters, surface dive 10 feet, retrieve 10-pound object, resurface and return 20 meters)
Requirements
- Completion of one year of college preferred
- Lifeguard/CPR/First-aid certification required, on-site training will be available (Dates TBA)
- Experience with children preferred
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
Working Conditions
- Must be able to lift, bend, and twist
- Ability to push and pull loads
- Must be able to lift frequently up to 35 lbs.; occasionally 35-100 lbs. with assistance
- Good hand-eye coordination
