As a Wheelabrator Operator at Spudnik Equipment Company, you will play a crucial role in our fabrication department by preparing raw steel parts for welding and painting. This position involves operating our Wheelabrator machine, which is designed to remove surface rust and mill scale from steel components, both large and small.
Key Responsibilities:
- Place raw steel parts on a rack, which will run through the Wheelabrator enclosure.
- Operate the Wheelabrator machine to blast parts from various angles to effectively remove surface imperfections.
- Ensure that blast media and dust are collected and filtered within the enclosure to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Remove prepared parts from the machine and place them on pallets for further processing down the production line.
- Collaborate with forklift operators and utilize overhead cranes when handling heavier parts.
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to minimize risks and ensure a secure working environment.
- Maintain equipment and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs to the supervisor.
Physical Requirements:
This role involves medium work, including activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, hearing, talking, grasping, feeling, handling, repetitive motions, small motor skills, visual acuity, and lifting (up to 50 lbs).
Environmental Conditions:
The work environment is typical of a manufacturing setting with protection from weather conditions, though temperature changes may occur. Noise levels may require raised voices for communication. The environment may include proximity to moving mechanical parts, exposure to electrical current, working at heights, and potential exposure to respiratory irritants, skin irritants, and cutting fluids. There may also be air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
