How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is adiverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact.This position is responsible for overseeing the preparation and maintenance of tax records, returns, reports and other tax-related materials. This role works to minimize tax liability using thorough knowledge of tax laws and regulations. Additional responsibilities include preparing claims for tax refunds, maintaining tax records, preparing tax reports, and advising management regarding business, internal programs, and activities as they relate to tax matters.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:
- Oversee the preparation and filing of monthly sales tax returns, utilizing a full understanding of the tax application for each of the company products in every state in which the company does business.
- Regularly review sales orders to ensure that each one is taxed correctly.
- Determine whether customer and end user addresses appear correct, and the likelihood of the customer providing an exemption certificate before invoicing occurs.
- Make changes to order tax status as deemed necessary to ensure correct invoice presentation.
- Maintain proficiency in tax research on at least a weekly basis and be prepared to answer specific sales tax questions from customers, vendors, and employees regarding tax application by state.
- Manage periodic sales tax audits to be sure that the company's best interest is represented, and that the tax auditor has all the necessary information to correctly review company returns for the period under audit.
- Maintain proficiency in contract review and be able to understand how tax should be applied given different types of contracts in different states.
- Prepare quarterly and annual income tax return work papers as support for the separate company income for inclusion with the SPX Corporation income tax returns, including identification of timing differences that are either permanent and affect current income, or temporary and on which deferred income tax must be provided.
- Prepare annual State income tax apportionment schedules for the separate companies, so that the SPX Corporation Tax Department will have the proper support for the state income tax returns.
- Manage the complete property tax function for locally assessed real and personal property, including timely filing of annual renditions of personal property owned by the company for each county.
- Review real estate tax assessments for reasonableness and protest as necessary by the required date for such action; ensure all expected property tax bills are accounted for and paid on time.

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience & Skills
- 5-7 years experience including indirect and income tax and some managerial experience.
- Experience with SAP financial reporting
- Experience with contract law or contract administration
- Experience with OneStream financial reporting helpful
Ideal Experience & Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Knowledge of SAP or other ERP system
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to analyze and interpret federal and state tax laws and regulations.
- Ability to do complex tax research.
- In-depth knowledge of Vertex tax software
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting; emphasis in tax or advanced degree preferred.

- Office environment with varying degrees of noise levels
