The Data Engineer/Scientist assists with the planning, development and execution of the digital transformation strategy to optimize operational efficiency and quality, and to enhance productivity and collaboration.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Understand business and production process control requirements and help evaluate the performance of current technological capabilities in the internal infrastructure
Help identify, design and implement internal process improvements, including redesigning infrastructure for greater scalability, optimizing data delivery, and automating manual processes
Follow best practices for data management and for tracking, testing and deploying changes within a complex integrated system landscape
Proactively take advantage of possibilities and opportunities afforded by new technologies to maintain a competitive advantage and meet sustainability goals
Assist with digitization of existing manual and paper-based processes
Help support the data needs of multiple areas, teams, and products
Help design and implement solutions to service delivery problems
Adhere to enterprise data governance standards
Help identify, assess, and manage risk
QUALIFICATIONS
Competencies and Experience
Required:
Minimum 2 years data engineering experience
Strong analytical skills related to working with unstructured datasets
Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases
Understanding of manufacturing systems and underlying integration structure
Industrial automation and process control experience
Ability to understand business needs and operational requirements
Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
Project management and organizational skills
Good communication and interpersonal relationship skills
Legacy modernization experience
Modeling and machine learning experience
Data analysis and visualization experience
Familiar with multiple programming languages
Preferred:
Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, C
Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases
Digitalization experience in a steel manufacturing environment
MES
Education
Required:
B.S. degree in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline
