What does the job involve?
Summary: Requires surface treatment of a variety of metal parts by such processes as cleaning, stripping, pickling, sandblasting, de-scaling, and passivation of metal parts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:
- Operates hydrofluoric-nitric acid tanks.
- Operates sandblasting machines.
- Loads and checks racks for proper spacing in tanks and operates hoist or immerses parts by hand, when required.
- Cleans and checks for cleanliness and proper surface of a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous metal parts.
- Varies immersion time, heat of solution, solution from established Manufacturing Process Data.
- Maintains tanks by draining and replacing new fluids and may maintain solutions by adding new solutions as directed.
- Requires ability to identify parts from blueprints or Manufacturing Process Data.
- Requires keeping of necessary records as required by Quality Control.
- Performs rework, repair and other associated operations about the work described.
- Follow all Senior policies and procedures.
- Other duties with the work as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skills:
- Language: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Mathematical Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Other Abilities: Must be able to understand the use of check templates. Must pass internal certification test both written and practical.
Tools used:
- Hand tools, hoist, hand trucks, hooks, racks, treating and processing tanks.
Materials used:
- Ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys in various degrees of hardness in the form of tubes or pre-fabricated parts, solvents, cleaners, water, acid and lubricants.
