Football Assistant Coach/Offensive Coordinator

Objective: To support the effective administration and growth of all aspects of the football program, and to foster a dynamic environment that fosters, promotes, and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and physical fitness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Football Assistant Coach and Offensive Coordinator

  • Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of football.
  • Instruct student-athletes in the safety practices associated with football.
  • Develop, organize, and implement the offensive playbook.
  • Prepare the offensive side of the football team.
  • Assist with athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
  • Understand and implement all appropriate rules and regulations according to MHSAA guidelines.
  • Maintain proper control and discipline in a positive manner by establishing good, wholesome rapport through healthy, professional relationships among students involved in athletic programs.
  • Monitor and enforce student-athlete eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
  • Instruct student-athletes in the proper care and use of materials and equipment.
  • Accompany and supervise student-athletes during athletic competitions in football during away games.
  • Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with the student handbook.
  • Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.

Other

  • Serve as the official game administrator for various athletic events.
  • Oversee assigned study halls.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the middle and upper schools and athletic department.
  • Attend and contribute in full, divisional, and departmental faculty meetings.
  • Take an active role in professional activities and attend relevant professional meetings and conferences.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advances in physical fitness education and coaching.

Work Environment: Physical demands include:

  • Ability to demonstrate the appropriate skills and techniques to be used by the students.
  • Ability to visually monitor students.
  • Ability to operate fitness equipment.
  • Ability to perform general maintenance duties on equipment and football and track facilities.
  • Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 25 lbs.), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving equipment/boxes (up to 25 lbs.)

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position with coaching and teaching or administrative responsibilities from August - May. Travel and occasional weekend and evening work will be required. As with any independent school, faculty and coaches should be ready to chaperone class trips, perform typical day-to-day duties such as lunch and carpool duties, and engage fully in all school events that develop the student.

  • Bachelor’s degree in physical education or related field required.
  • Previous football coaching experience required.
  • First aid, CPR, and AED certifications required.
  • Coursework/training required by MHSAA.
  • Represent the school in the larger community in a positive manner that reflects the values of the school.
  • Ability to interface and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, administrators, and parents/guardians.
  • High degree of cultural competency and demonstrated commitment to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Professional written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite required.
