Job Description

  • TITLE:     Counselor – Residential Activities and Wellness

  • SUPERVISOR:     Director – Residential Program

  • HOURS PER WEEK:     40 hours; includes days, evenings, weekends and some
holidays. Tuesday thru Saturday 1pm to 9pm or Sunday thru Thursday 1pm to 9pm.

  • QUALIFICATIONS:     Experience in the field recommended; valid NYS driver’s
license required.

  • FUNCTIONS:     To plan and implement diverse recreation and wellness
activities for the residential program.

  • RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Implement an ongoing comprehensive activities and wellness program that meets the needs and treatment goals of youth in the QRTP including but not limited to creative small group activities, service learning, physical activities, instructional classes, nature walks, and musical/arts enrichment.
    • Develop a monthly calendar of activities and outings.
    • Assist leadership and development department in the coordination of special events for residents during the holidays.
    • Maintain the inventory for all supplies.
    • Ensure a safe, therapeutic and trauma-sensitive environment during all activities and outings.
    • Provide vigilant supervision of program participants and use teaching opportunities to further individual goals and experiences.
    • Attend all mandatory trainings including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and Restorative Practices.
    • Demonstrate understanding of the need for establishing therapeutic relationships with all students.
    • Input all activities into the NYS Connections system and the AWARDS electronic health record.
    • Use open, honest, effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
    • Attend and contribute to all scheduled meetings and trainings.
    • Abide by the NYS Justice Center and the SAI Codes of Conduct/Ethics
    • Complete additional responsibilities as assigned.
