Full-time Position0.8 FTE (approximately 32 hours/week)Standard Schedule: Weekdays 8:00-4:30 p.m.
This position is responsible for providing a safe care environment for patients and staff within the surgical services and operating room by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. The OR EVS Aide ensures timely room turns related to daily schedule abiding by basic principles of environmental hygiene and infection prevention.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Cleans all assigned areas throughout the Surgical Suite in a clean, precise and sanitary manner following infection control standards and in a timely manner.
- Completes cleaning and disinfecting of operating room suites, decontamination rooms, central sterile supply, and endoscopy suites including cleaning soiled utility rooms and surgical storage(s)
- Adheres to organization safety, risk management and infection control guidelines and standards while promoting a culture of safety
- Responsible for safe removal of medical hazardous waste including blood, human tissue and other blood-borne pathogens utilizing universal precautions
- Maintains and keeps current all appropriate logs and check lists/sheets
- Collects all used and contaminated linen and disposes in the soiled utility room
- Performs terminal cleaning procedures in the surgical suites immediately following each surgical case
- Cleans ceilings, walls and floors on a routine basis, concentrating on high touch surfaces
- Follows infection control protocols specific to surgical environments (e.g. hand hygiene, personal protective equipment such as: scrubs booties, cap, gloves, face shield or mask, etc)
- Maintains department standards on an ongoing basis and assists in the responsibilities for survey readiness. Deliver clean linen to the appropriate areas in the required manner and monitors and replenishes as needed
Assist surgical team to set up operating rooms between cases.
- Understand Surgical Services processes; Properly place medical equipment in designated areas
- Responsible for cleaning and disinfection of equipment and areas of assignment according to procedures, policies and manufacturer recommendations
- Stage and relocate equipment between cases
- Report damage of malfunctioning or unsafe equipment to Bio-Med per work request system process
Utilizes chemicals and supplies efficiently according to established procedures.
- Utilize chemical dispensing units according to manufacture directions and properly reports Quat cleaner in the efficacy logs as required
- Stock supplies in cupboards and on cart at the end of each shift.
- Sign out supplies from Materials Management department using proper procedures
Other duties as assigned.
- Perform special projects as assigned; Special projects are assigned according to department cleaning schedules when routine tasks are completed
- Report all fire and safety concerns; Ensures all safety practices and guidelines are followed
- Ensure doors are locked to the cleaning closets at all times and cleaning carts are not stored in the corridors or hallways unattended
- Complete required annual educational training and competencies
Requirements
Education & Licensure:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
Experience:
- 1 year of health care environmental services experience
- Knowledge of operating room processes, tools and techniques in a healthcare environment preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to understand instructions and learn new work methods
- Excellent communication and listening skills
- Ability to maintain strict level of confidentiality when required
- Ability to communicate and maintain a satisfactory working relationship with all levels of leadership, staff, patients and visitors
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work in a physically demanding, and at times, high stress environment with exposure to blood and other biohazardous materials providing quick turnover depending on the needs of our staff and patients
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with little direction and manage multiple demands and priorities
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and reaching
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
